Even though it was “over 5 minutes”, you did a good job packing all the positives/negatives and differences of the focal range into one video. Straightforward, honest, helpful. Thank you!

Great video! I really enjoy your short and honest lens reviews. I ended up in the same place as you. Liked this lens, but have effectively stopped taking it out while using the 35/1.4 for the same kinds of shots. I have a 50/2, and will keep that one instead. On an everyday basis, my kit is 18/2 and 35/1.4 on my X-Pro3, and this gives me almost everything I need.

Its good to know I’m not crazy! Sometimes I’m not sure when my opinion goes so hard against the grain. And yeah the two you mentioned are prob my favorite 1 and 2 Fuji lenses.

@@Lonnie.G Definitely not crazy! I'm sometimes tempted to downsize my entire Fuji kit to just X-Pro3 with 18/2 and 35/1.4 and an X100V.... At least in my imagination, I'm a lens minimalist. Thanks again, and I'm really looking forward to your other reviews.

Well I have it on my X Pro 3 and I must say it is my best Lens.(maybe I also have a good piece out of their production) I do not need fast Autofocus and I seldom go to f 1,2. For the Rest it is simply superb. One thing I must admit: like you say the aperture ring moves far too easy. Once again a Review to the point !!!

Yes I think there is some variation between copies. I've seen some fantastic things from this lens and other times not. Even mine seems to impress in one photo and look off in another. When it's working well it's great though. Thanks!

I have the same love hate relationship with the 56mmf12 but its still great to use especially wide open.. the risk is worth the reward with this lens! After shooting a couple weddings i realized that i needed to get a better low light setup so i sold my trusty 23mmf2 and my 50mmf2 for the 16mmf14. The 50mmf2 is good for street and amateur work but 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 options are better suited for more professional work!

That's a good way to describe it really! It definitely feels like a risk sometimes because when it hits it really hits, while some other times I found it slightly disappointing. I have never shot with the 16 1.4 but I've always wanted to! I have a feeling it would turn into one of my favorites form what I've seen

@@Lonnie.G the 16mmf14 comes across as a specialty wide angle lens when street shooting just because you have so much detail to work with when framing your shot but on the flip side you can crop if need be plus the 16 is weather sealed with decent macro abilities. The 16 compliments my lineup very well at the moment for street, weddings, detailed macro, landscape and house viewing. Whats your line-up looking like and why?

Thanks for the video. In my 35mm film only days, I shoot with 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 lenses. When I purchased my first digital Fuji mirrorless, the first two lenses I purchased were the 23mm f/1.4 and the 56mm f/1.2.

@@Lonnie.G The 23mm f/1.4 is my personal favorite lens for my Fuji mirrorless. It is the main lens in my Fujinon 3-lens available light kit which consists of the 16mm f/1.4 and the 56mm f/1.2.

I think there might be some sample variation. Some seem to be better than others. What I’ve noticed even more since making this video is that the copy I reviewed performed very well up close, interestingly, but at a distance it fell apart and got pretty mushy. Not sure why that is. But I agree it has a lot to offer and is a solid option in the Fuji lineup. I’d pick it over the 1.0

The 50mm f2 has a more sterile look in my opinion, regardless of aperture, I personally do not mind the flares and the haze, they add some character and soul to the images. The bokeh could be smoother (as in the 35/1,4), and it is not fast focussing, but overall a very nice lens that I own since 7 years or so. The f1 is not sharper, according to several online comparisons. Just a bit (!) smoother bokeh. But, as you say, very big and heavy...

I don't think I'd disagree with anything you said. The 50 f2 definitely lacks character which isn't an issue for some people. The 56mm flaring can defiantly be used to your advantage. And the 50 f1 is just way too big for casual use. As far as the sharpness comparison, the samples I got with the 50 f1 looked sharper than what I'm used to seeing out of my 56 but I haven't shot them side by side and it's also possible that my copy of the 56 isn't the best. I find it's pretty sharp close up, but at a distance and wide open it usually wasn't very sharp IMO. But the overall image looks pleasing still so it definitely has some of that classic Fuji magic. Thanks for watching!

I love hate it as well. I’ve owned it at least 5 times. I currently don’t have it and use the 35mm 1.4 and 90mm f2 for my portrait work.

Really good to hear I'm not alone. I've never tried the 90 but I used to have the Canon 135 f2 back on the original 5D and it was magical. I would expect similar from Fuji's 90
