Hi Brandon, that was an excellent review. I see why most photographers struggle to understand the mechanic and function of a medium format. I came from the era of film camera that didn’t have automated focus. In those days your camera was just a tool to capture your images-but you had to manually do the work. Focus, exposure, shutter, speed, ,manual focus (by hand) ISO was depended what speed film you had to load on the back of the medium format. So in close it’s not for everyone it’s a unique niche that we choirs understanding the functionality of a media format. But the end result are extraordinary. There’s nothing like it. A Fuji 50sii is more than enough to give a new photographer a experience that will bring them to the next level.

Thank you for the kind words. It’s awesome that you have the experience with medium format film cameras. Its a perspective that probably really enhances the user experience with these modern MF digital cameras. Are you using the 50sii?

@@BCPCamerasTech Don’t own the 50sii at the time-but I did have some time with it-it toke 2mins to operate it do to my understanding and pass experience of its functionality. It was second nature.. I’m in the process of getting one with the gf 45-100mm f/4 and that would be all I need for what I do.

Nice review, Brandon, and some lovely portraiture. Personally, am really struggling with the 50S II/100S decision, not so much with resolution - I agree 50MP is plenty - but with autofocus performance. Any thoughts of doing a comparison video comparing the two cameras in that regard? Would enjoy seeing you shoot and edit a bit with the 100S, what you could come up with. Good stuff, Brandon.

Thanks for the kind words! I may be able to get my hands on the 100s but not sure yet. It does seem that the phase detection af system on the 100s is substantially better (from the videos I’ve seen). If you have a high performing computer and a good amount of storage, I’d go with the 100s. That’s only if You need the superior AF. Thanks again!

Great review and very helpful! I agree...the GFX files need less editing to get it looking excellent and have way more room to push it further if needed. Thanks for the video!

The files look great and you have some lovely portraits there. The colours especially are amazing. Be careful when considering it for landscapes though: aside from the potential heft implications, you need to fully allow for the depth of field differences on all apertures with medium format. To get corner to corner sharpness on a wide canvas with front to back points of interest you will often need to go to something like f/16. There is at least one KZitem photographer who came badly unstuck by underestimating the amount he needed to stop down. And of course, diffraction also has an effect at some point even on top quality lenses. I hate tripods, but suspect that even with IBIS you might need to carry one around for a sunrise or sunset to get the very best out of the camera and be on the safe side. But I would have thought that if you take these precautions the results will be excellent.

Such a good point Michael! You’re right though. It wouldn’t even matter if you had IBiS if you need to focus stack or shoot at f16. It would seem that full frame is a sweet spot for landscapes. Thanks for the input!
