The Fujifilm XPro one with the XF 35mm f1.4 is a great combination. I thought the shots were nicer from the Xpro one. If you can live with slow autofocus the XPro one produces excellent images. The jpegs are so good straight out of camera.

Bought my XPro1 10 years ago as a bundle with 35mm f1.4 and 18mm f2 for £900 GBP. It was the best ever deal as the camera was under 1 year old and each of the lenses were selling £300-400 at the the time. Fast forward 10 years and the images still blow me away when compared to my XT3.

I get what you mean, I got the camera with the 35 1.4 got a rif of the lens with regret but its a must to get other stuffs. Got a 50mm f2. Have issues with that focal length at the moment tho. I want to revisit the xpro1 and make a film specifically for that camera. Think it might come pretty soon.

I had the X-Pro1 / 35mm f/1.4 combo back in the day, images from it do absolutely have a special quality, in the same way as the original X100 or Nikon D700 have. I remember how websites like DPReview really missed the mark in their reviews of the X-Pro1, so much noise was made about AF performance to the point that they, like with the X100, they didn’t get how special it was.

Thank you for the comparison. For me precisely the key main difference, that is most useful for my use and style, is the capacity for jpeg rendering with all it's tweaking options + film simulations. When viewed from that angle, there's a substantial difference between the two cameras, with a big advantage to the X-Pro3 which would be of course, very expected.

Not to mention the X Pro 1 has two different viewfinder magnifications for people who like using the framelines with different focal lengths. If you only shoot with manual focus lenses then the X Pro 1 is a no brainer.

Very interesting. Sadly, my eyes are not as good as they were when I was your age, and the X-Pro 1 does not have built in dioptor correction, so I can't give it serious consideration. I guess I could try to find screw-in eyepiece lenses, but then I'd have to figure out the amount of correction and hope I got it right. This is so much more of a burden than simply dialing in correction until the display is sharp. I do have an X-E2s with the very next generation X Trans 2 sensor and maybe not exactly the same as your test, I find that it is still viable even when compared to my X Trans 4 bodies. Not better or worse, just a different pallet that can produce a very nice rendering. Fujifilm users are lucky to have so many choices.

solid points! I had a X-E2 before. At the moment I have a X-E3 that's going to be the next camera that I will feature on the channel. It's to bad with the diopter, I think tho that the X-E1 have a diopter and its cheeper that the X-pro1 and have the same sensor. I also heard that some Nikon diopters works with the X-pro1. Perhaps that's some good future content to do and look into. Even if it's not an issue for me I think it would be good if I ever sell it and it would help a lot of people to being able to use it. The fuji system is as you saying very interesting since the old stuffs are still up for the task and are very interesting now days. I also picket up a Nikon D200 with a 10megapixel ccd sensor awhile ago. That one is also producing enjoyable images, I remember that Fuji use to have some old DSLR cameras that shared same mount as Nikon perhaps I should look into those..

I don’t own any of the xtrans 1 cameras but been researching few hours now and it feels like xpro1 has the best IQ out of the three because it has no anti aliasing filter not like xm/xe1 which gives a slight bit more detail and I think that’s why it’s still holding up so well. But in herbal I love the turquoise blues the xtrans 1 sensor gives, really need to get me a xpro1!!

Thanks for a very objective essay. Indeed some things look nicer in one, others look nicer in the most recent version of the camera, I think I would be happy with both. I wonder if it is an issue of getting used to something, I had a Sony R1 and when I tried a Fujifilm X-E1 I remember the first weeks I set it to Negative High and ISO 400 with noise reduced to the minimum because the colors were too vibrant and the files were so free of noise, in comparison, that it was unsettling.

At the case of 8:00 I have to ask, what are the chances that the delay between the two photos was enough for the light to be slightly changed, because the rgb graph showcases that the light conditions might not be the same or that the X-Pro 1 somehow enriched the existing colours of the image.

Very very nice images. How did you process your X-pro 1 files on C1? I intended to use C1 with my recently acquired X-Pro 1 as I do with my other Fuji cameras but I can't choose a different film simulation than the original one used at the moment of shooting, However, LR does allow changing film simulations so I use LR the most when processing X-Pro 1 files.

back in the day when i was using digital backs from sinar on Sinar p3 cameras and Hasselblad they was at 12mp delivery many images for large prints to clients. X-trans1 gives 4896px while X-Trans3 gives 6240px on longest side. Back in the day i was told that an easy way to calculate how large an image could be printed was to remove the last number of your resolution your would then remain with 254dpi The printing service i use print in 200dpi that require 5512x3937px for an 50x70 print. Witch means that you need to add 616PX to the x-trans1 and that would be impossible to see any difference at

Interesting comparison! I like the overall look and colors of the Xpro3 better, but, I do like how the Xpro1 renders the sky better. Overall, I much prefer the advancements in the newer Xpro3 compared to the original, and I think for me the biggest differentiator is going to be the lens used; and that 35mm f/1.4 is going to look great no matter what camera it’s on. Side note: One thing I’ve noticed in older generation cameras circa early 2000’s like the original Xpro, original Canon 5D, and Nikon D3 and Nikon D700 all produced similar pleasing colors, especially with skies. The newer modern sensors I find tend to produce a much more technically accurate result in color rendition, or sometimes with a cooler, magenta bias. Anyway, both are great cameras, especially with that 35mm f/1.4 lens on them.

The X-Trans 1 sensor "only" shoots in a 12bit color depth that's why the color sience of those cameras are diffrent compared to the newer cameras. The irony is though that during the 20 years i been made my living out of photography it's only the latest generation of cameras that i had issues with. The hdmi of the xt5 stoped working, the main circuit board of my A7siii stoped working and was replaced. My A7iv fried it self during an intense day of shooting. before this i never had any issues. Regarding Fujifilm, the X-Pro3 also have a well knowed issue with the screen cable. however i think the well built old digital cameras going to hold for a long time. While we well see the latest generation have issues with all kind of stuff especially ibis units guess only time will tell
