You have to get into the larger Fuji bodies, X-T5 and X-H2 to get a better VF., and those both significantly heavier, especially the X-H bodies. I'm an X-S10 lover, and this looks like a worthy upgrade. I agree with the sentiment that the new processor and new battery are more important upgrades in this camera than the new sensor would have been. The subject detection modes, animal eye detection, autofocus improvements, new video modes, and the several other minor features are huge steps over the X-S10. Yes, almost every single thing I didn't like about my X-S10 was fixed: no more crappy battery (2 hours footage on 1 battery!), no corner wobbles with wide lenses, way better autofocus (still no tap to track though), 10bit 4:2:2 in camera (14 stops in FLOG2 is incredible, slightly better than the X-H2 even!), no record limit, 4k60 for great b-roll, LCD is way better (I didn't expect this to make as much of a difference as it does), IBIS is as good as flagships, plus an unexpected massive bonus of 6.2k open gate - I am the owner of a small business and being able to crop for portrait and landscape from the same video should save a lot of time! -- I'm still keeping the X-S10 for when I want multiple angles and dynamic range isn't as critical :)

Well, I like the X line Retro controls, but have no issues or dislike of the more in keeping with traditional camera styling. What have issue with is the addison of or any inclusion of Video.I love it if Fuji made a Twin to this minus the video I have no need for or love for and made a few other value added features for a True Stills Camera. At this point in time they'd be in a retro sense ahead of the curve. Which I suppose depends on your perspective. And they could approach it in one of two ways make it less expensive with just minor upgrades to this level say the higher resolution view finder. Or they could go slightly more expensive and come closer in specs to their Higher End units sort of splitting the difference price wise and some options close to their XH2 and XH2s. But then this for some is what dreams are made of and don't always come true. That said, since is close to the XT 4 / 5 and has leanings in the XH2 direction I will certainly give it a look see. One option I wish it had is what Olympus calls Live Bulb. I didn't hear any mention of in camera Image Stacking which hopefully it incorporates in it's menu options. I'll be deep diving to see. In case anyone is wondering about the wobbles from other reviewers a lot of them were using the new 8mm that fuji also sent them to test. I’m guessing the wobbles in other videos were based on the ultra wide lens and not the camera. The 10-24 does the same thing at 10mm, both versions of it. Going to 12-14mm seems to fix this issue. So you should be good with the 10-24 at 12+ or with the 16mm prime (though still a little bit too close to my face for my comfort but some people like it) if they made a 12, 13 or 14mm prime ( a new one) it would be a nice alternative too.

I have both an X-S10 and I replaced my X-T3 with an X-S20. The reasons I love my X-20 vs the X-S10 are: 1. No more corner wobbling in video with wide lenses - that one is enough right there. 2. Battery life is MUCH better, 2 hours video recording on 1 battery - vs something like 30 min on the X-S10. No more battery anxiety, or having to swap batteries mid take or while walking around on holiday. 3. Autofocus is MUCH better, I can point it at my cats and it just locks on to their eyes, heads and bodies (depending on what's visible). Same for face/eye, you can turn around and it will latch on to the back of your head, your face doesn't need to be visible, I can actually trust it now. It still sucks for any object it can't track/recognise, but baby steps, there's no tap to track either still :( 4. H.265 10bit 4:2:2 is night and day vs the H.264 8bit 4:2:0, you can finally recover highlights/shadows in FLOG2 and get 14 stops dynamic range, it's amazing and actually slightly better than the X-H2! 5. 6.2k open gate means you can crop your video for Instagram and KZitem (arguable a lot more useful than the 8K in the X-H2, it's like a baby X-H2S). 6. 4k60p for much better b-roll than 4k30. 7. Extra stop of IBIS is nice. 8. LCD is way better, I was quite shocked by the improvement - I wasn't expecting it to be so pronounced. I sold the X-T3 and not the X-S10 because: no IBIS, bigger/heavier, terrible hand grip, I prefer an articulating screen, missing some software features (e.g. Auto ISO doesn't show you the value until AFTER you've taken the shot, why!?), etc - but it is a beautiful camera I have to say. Might get an X-T1 one just to keep on the shelf :) I agree with you, the EVF on the 2018 X-T3 is WAY better than the 2023 X-S20, come on Fuji!

@@DigiDriftZone X-T30ii vs X-S20 for photography ? Price not a factor
@DigiDriftZone

@@bilbo8338 There's no difference for photography other than the burst rate speed and autofocus from what I can tell. Things like animal eye detect do make it easier to take a photo of an animal running towards you say, or action sports. @@bilbo8338 Just for transparency, I sent mine back because it was no good for video, corner IBIS wobbles with wide lenses, still bad video autofocus, poor dynamic range in 5.6k, terrible stabilisation (and no motion data so you cannot stabalise in post). I decided to jump to the ZV-E1 which ended up being cheaper with a few lenses and the results are night and day, I recorded a video about it here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/woCPua5qpn1qaI4 - despite just 12MP I'm also getting much better photos because of the better dynamic range and low light performance, allowing me to crank up the shutter and still get better results at ISO50,000 than Fuji provides with ISO3200.

When I handled the XS-10, I found it felt quite plasticky. I guess that's what they need to do to minimize weight. Still, with this glowing review I might want to give the XS-20 a shot. I have never owned a Fuji camera but have always been quite interested in them. Really appreciate the review. (Irregardless?)
@DigiDriftZone
Жыл бұрын
I own both and the X-S20 does feel a tiny bit less plasticky, it's a softer material (or could just be the age difference). The buttons are slightly clickier on the X-S20, the half shutter press on the X-S20 feels like the full press on the X-S10 (so much so I keep failing to take a photo not realising I need to press harder!), but there's not much between them to be honest. Cameras like the X-T3 look/feel a bit more special, but I always gravitated to the X-S10 for its compact size and ease of use. With that said, the X-S10 still looks/feels much more premium than the Sony A6xxx series.

I have a used x-t30 and x-t4. I’m very tempted to trade the x-t4 for the x-s20. I know I have 2 card slots (it’s never been an issue having one previously so no big deal) and weather sealing which the x-s20 doesn’t have but I find the x-t4 quite heavy for the size of grip. It’s not the weight as a stand alone but the carry weight with such a small grip can be uncomfortable after a while whereas the x-s20 has a great sized grip. I know image quality will be great but I’m very conflicted as I don’t want to regret it. Unfortunately the camera shop isn’t hiring any atm to get a good feel for it. I would like to do small amounts of video but listening to people talk about video is as understandable for me as a foreign language but I get the idea that it’s good for video 😂 I was also waiting for this review and it didn’t disappoint, thanks.

The temperature indicator turned red about 30 minutes into the recording, but it kept going until the battery died, very impressed! Excellent video! While the advances over the S10 are evolutionary they are real and worthwhile, even the extra battery capacity alone would be a useful upgrade. This is just a good, solid camera that does everything well enough at a reasonable cost. Fujifilm also offer a great range of lenses. I think the Sony Alpha6700 is ahead on autofocus and also has some great lenses but in most respects (expecially handling) I much prefer the S20. A great enthusiast camera.

Other than the obvious: 6.2k for crop/reposition flexibility, 4k60, 10bit 4:2:2 FLOG2 (slightly better than X-H2 dynamic range!), etc - it's little things like, while I rarely film over 30 minutes, I always worry about how long left before it shuts off, or how much battery is left (or I have to add extra steps of running power to the camera), no more! - Autofocus on the X-S10 loses me, a lot, the X-S20 I can turn away from the camera and it latches to the back of my head, it's a huge improvement. I'm still keeping my X-S10 though for a second video angle, still a great camera!

We've just got the X-S20 and overall it looks and feels great, but we are having issues with what we desire to be the main use of the camera: to use as a webcam (Zoom, Google Meet) and for OBS purposes (for KZitem videos). Supposedly the camera should be very "plug and play" in terms of setting up the webcam functionality, but we are having issues with that in every place we try to use the "webcam" it just freezes after a few seconds (sometimes a minute or two). I.e., the camera feed on the LCD on the camera itself works just fine, but the camera on Zoom or OBS etc. just freezes after a very short while.

As Jordan mentioned, the thing that is really missing with Fuji's autofocus is definitely the touch-to-track autofocus. Going from a ZVE-10 to this camera, I just find the autofocus really lacking when I just want a very specific subject tracked when there's more than one subject in scene i.e. two people or multiple animals. One of the worst is when I want just a wall of a building in focus, and it won't track it while I'm shooting video so I have to manually move a zone focus while the camera is moving to keep a specific area of the wall in focus and move the zone with the joystick but really not possible if I have the camera on a gimbal. Anyway, ranting as a new owner of the XS20. I might try to make a video of all the issues I've had with the camera too, freezes, bugs and whatnot.
