I currently have a Canon 90D and a Canon AT-1. As much as I love them both I realised that for street photography my 90D is far too big and film is getting too expensive for regular shoots. So I've been looking at smaller cameras for under £500 that I could use. Ive gone through so many and thought the Lumix GX9 would be an okay fit until I came across the x100f since the 100v is out of stock. And as much as I wanted it I don't think any video on the internet could convince me to get it until I saw this. A great video man. Keep it up!

in your honest opinion, is the 100F really that much softer wide open than the 100V? if so what about at F2.8? just wondering if all the negative about the soft lens is blown out of proportion. Thanks

Great video! Quick question: is it possible to see a preview of the film simulation on the viewfinder/glass? When I shoot a video, I constantly see everything I shoot in a film simulation, but when I want to take a photo and look through the viewfinder, I don't see the film simulation. Is that normal? I would love it if I could see the film simulation all the time to know exactly what the photo will look like. Thanks for your help.

Can’t agree more! Bought the camera in June 2022 and I adore it! I use mainly my own recipe based on Portra 400, but yours look too good! Gonna give it a try 🤩

I found it very interesting that all the images you shown were shot at a F2.0 with a really fast shutter speed. I’m sure that’s by personal choice and I’m no pro but for street photography I like to shoot with a mid range F stop to ensure proper sharpness around the image. Overall good video

That’s true- I tend to shout wide open just because I’m a sucker for shallow depth of field, and edge sharpness doesn’t matter as much for my own style :) but it’s definitely just an individual choice :)

I like the look of your chrome recipe. The X100F is a great camera and the film simulations offer so much versatility. The obsession with sharpness bores me. It really depends on the image if you want sharpness or softness or something in between. On a trip to Italy I deliberately went down to -2 on sharpness just to take off the edge a little. I'm not keen on Velvia for daytime landscapes but sometimes use it at nighttime, rainy street shots, neon lights and so on. I also shoot at fairly high ISOs as I like some noise, grit, grain etc as it adds some texture.

I've got the chance to buy the X100F for around 650€ right now, but the hatch of the EVF is broken. So OVF or cover it with something else to be able to use the EVF. What do you guys think? Still a worth deal?

Really enjoyed your video. I didn’t understand what you meant by staying in aperture priority with a fixed iso. Does that mean you change your aperture and shutter speed with the exposure compensation? What’s the advantage of this setting? Thanks.

The recipe I use most of the time is somewhat different from the Classic Chrome recipe of yours: My basis is Classic Chrome + DR400 + WB Auto (R+1, B-2) + HL-1 + SH+1 + Sharp+0 + NR-4, usually with EV +1/3 to +2/3. I deliberately use DR400 so that I can expose for the mid tones without worrying too much about the highlights.

Great video! I recently picked up the X100F. To get even a more “film-like” shooting experience, I often use the View Mode button to turn the rear display off, so I’m only looking for the viewfinder. I too try to get the jpeg image the way I want it straight out of camera, but I like your idea of shooting raw+jpeg just in case I want to apply a different film simulation / recipe later.

I had all the models in the X100 range, and I stopped at the X100F ... this is the second one, they stole me from the car ... I didn't see any interest in the X100V for the same reasons, they removed the rear buttons that are missing for those who use the display optical... a superb camera that I take everywhere... except the supermarket 😁📷👌🇵🇹

Wow.. I love the X100-line of cameras and have owned the X100F a long time, maybe got it 6 months after its release, BUT - The lens.. you cannot shoot landscapes, the focal plane is really weird, even at F11 if you focus on the horizon and then recompose the shots get blurry, and the focal plane is all over the place.. The AF is not really good at all, its always about 1cm behind the subject.. Not an issue from F5.6 and upwards but.. yea.. The x-trans raw files are horrible and sadly do not work with Adobes new Ai Denoise function - you get the weird grid pattern everywhere in the shot like sometimes when you shoot directly into the sun /the sun behind the subject. No no no, this camera is so restricted image quality wise. I cannot recommend it to anyone.. The potential jpeg image quality with the DR400 function is amazing if only fujifilm had let you do an in camera curve adjustment.. They totally missed the mark with this camera, almost everything is a problem /issue, and thats not how a camera is supposed to work. I would instead recommend the cheap Panasonic GX80 /GX85 with a cheap manual TTArtisans 17mm f/1.4 lens everyday.

Sounds like you rely on too much auto and digital stuff. As someone who's shot film for many years and digitally manually for 95% of the time, everything you've said is minimal.
@HogbergPhotography

@@firtythive I wish you were right, but even the viewfinder is unacceptable as it cannot show exactly what the final image will look like, if you are not lucky you are always between 1 step under and 1 step over optimal exposure, and then you need to sit by the computer again 😩 which I try to avoid.. The screen on the X100F is much more accurate, but I dont pay premium for a viewfinder only to use the screen. Now, I would really like to see you shoot 36 frames with correct exposure only by "guesstimating" - THAT would really impress me.
@firtythive

@@HogbergPhotography damn, even your first sentence of the reply shows that you heavily rely on the camera doing everything for you. Why are you so keen on fast tracking photography, even art as people say? Also, you wish to see me shoot 36 frames haha.. I guarantee with my style of photography, you’d say “they’re all (x) amount of stops under”. Photography is very subjective, there is no right or wrong exposure, depending on what your style is. Even so, I could spend less than a minute in LR to raise shadows or lower highlights if I wanted. I don’t care for noise/grain, you’ll never seen me using AI to ‘correct’ it. But yeah, when you discover that photography is all what you can do yourself with your eyes and mind, without needing autofocus, live view, editing software, AI de-noise, and whatever else, THAT would really impress me.
