HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH STRANGERS IN THE STREET?!?!
Ive recently discovered how many possibilities opens up when you just go ahead and ask interesting subjects to photograph them.
Going for candid shots is cool as well, but doesnt always get you the best results. How about challenging the comfort zone a little, and talk to these random people and ask them to take their photos instead?!
There are many approaches to this, and in this video, we went for trying to direct our subjects as well. Another way, if you get an OK from your subject, is to just have them act as they were. This requires you to hang around for a bit, until they "forget" about you.
Ever tried this?!
Great skill to add to your photography toolkit when out and about on the street. I highly recommend you try it. After all, the worst thing that can happen, is that you get a no.
Me and Craig were nervous about the idea of approaching strangers to get their portraits at first, but we quickly got used to it, and after an hour or so, it was more fun than anything else.
I used my Fujifilm XT30 and the 56mm f1,2 lens - A challenge for me as im more used to shooting wider angles on the street with my 23mm f2,8
It certainly wasnt my best work to date, but the point here is to challenge yourself, and grow as a photographer.
After all, photographing people requires people skills. I think both me and Craig learned a lot from this, and I will certainly continue doing this.
Filmed on: Panasonic Lumix S1
Special thanks to Craig for joining me in this video, and helping out filming.
Not inspired by Jessica Kobeissi for this - but she certainly has some entertaining videos on the subject as well :)
