Patience, grasshopper. The Mets aren’t going to call Mauricio up just be a DH. More to the point, while scouting minor league statlines is fun, it’s not very useful, and DFAing an above-average major leaguer in the hopes that a prospect will be good right away isn’t very smart. A small sample of Triple-A surface stats doesn’t have much predictive value (especially when it comes with a .394 BABIP). The Mets are actually watching Mauricio day in and day out. His power is legit, but his plate approach-while improving (finally)-is still pretty bad, and he hits the ball on the ground too much, both of which will make it hard to tap into his power fully at the big league level. They’re also working on his positional versatility (he’s likely better suited to be a corner OF, anyway). It’s possible he gets the call within the next couple of months, but they’re not going to rush him, nor should they. As for Vogelbach, who is still useful as a LH bench bat, they can give some of his ABs to Vientos and Escobar, and even Pham, who’s gotten pretty unlucky. (Side note: in a double stroke of irony, the Mets themselves got unlucky in the offseason: they wanted to sign Pham’s fantasy football pal Joc Pederson to be their left-handed DH, but then, to everyone’s shock, the Giants gave him a qualifying offer. They also tried to sign Andrew McCutchen to be their right-handed DH, but he took less money to go home to Pittsburgh. Money can’t buy everything-the Mets were similarly turned down by Kevin Gausman before last season, and ended up trading for Chris Bassitt instead.)
@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar
Жыл бұрын
@Bread And Circuses They have Brett Baty, so they’re fine at third base. Mike Trout turns 32 this summer and has seven more years left on his contract, so that’s not happening (and he’s showing signs of slowing down, even though his numbers right now are still great). Shohei Ohtani has to be willing to sign, and apparently even Mets officials believe he wants to sign with the Dodgers. He will be 30 next July, and will cost well over $500 million, so should try, but fans should be aware that it’s a BIG gamble, since his baseline injury risk is higher than any other player in the league, and we’re likely talking about AT LEAST a 10-year contract. Drafting and developing young pitchers takes years, so the Mets have to sign them or trade for them in the meantime-and they haven’t wanted to trade away prospects. The upcoming free agent pool of pitchers is VERY thin, so next year could be pretty rough unless they trade for someone. (I think Mike Vasil, currently at Double-A and likely to get promoted to Triple-A soon, will be a solid major league starter, but not an ace or anything.)

Huge comeback win but......the reality is that the Mets are a 50-50 club right now...And for continue in the right direction Billy Eppler and Buck Showalter needs to implement some measures: 1-Play the "kids" every day over "washed" veterans..Forget about "platoon" them..2-Ged rid of Voguelbach, Escobar, Canha, Nido, Guillorme,, Peterson, Lucesski, Hunter, Nogosek, toxic garbage players that are affecting the team..Keep Marte( 3 years high contract imposible to trade) Pham and Locastro . 2-Try to trade Escobar, Canha, Nido, Guillorme, Peterson, Lucesski that have some value for others teams that have injured players..Release by assignment because have 0 value and none team want them : Voguelvach, Nogosek, Hunter.. 3- Call the last prospect Mauricio and insert him in the lineup with the other 3 "kids"..Keep Gary Sanchez if he has some gas in the tank and carry on 3 catchers: Alvarez, Narvaez and him..4- Lineup: 1-Nimmo cf 2-Lindor SS 3-Mcneill LF 4-Alonso 1B-DH 5-Baty 3B 6-VIentos DH-1B 7-Mauricio 2B 8-Alvarez, Narvaez, Sanchez C 9-Marte, Pham, Locastro RF Bench players: Pham, Locastro, Narvaez, Sanchez, Vientos... 5- And the team priority now is work to IMPROVE THE BULLPEN, that is ATROCIOUS..Probably the WORST IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE or in all baseball..LETS GO METS DO IT!!!

I agree I’ve been saying same thing this isn’t little league where everyone gets to play its MLB only best players get to make roster. It’s simple if you aren’t good you need to lose your spot to a better player. We only care about winning 🏆. Not here to lose, here to WIN!

Why replace Batty with Escobar to run?? Is Escobar faster? Maybe I'm thinking out of pocket here, but I think sometimes. Baseball teams going into extra inning: intentionally let the other team win just to not exhaust their already exhausted pitching staff. Sacrafeice one game so down the road they don't lose more games cuz their relievers are exhausted. Just a thought

Last week was fun, but a pretty meaningless one, as this is still a very mediocre team. Dramatic, come-from-behind wins are cool, and make for good narratives, but objectively, they won five straight one-run games-three of which came against a Cleveland team that can’t hit-in between getting demolished by sub-.500 teams. These games will live on during rain delay broadcasts of Mets Classics, but that’s about it.
