Awesome!!! Gundam (and Zoids, if you are familiar at all) are my original background, I've been doing those for decades with this sort of modeling on and off up until '17 when I kinda just leaped back in to it all. Hoping here soon to get more Gunpla content on the channel in the future, so keep an eye out!

Funnily enough, I just decided to do an F-22 myself, though I went for the Italeri 1/38th scale kit. I - like you - really like the inclusion of the clear parts in the Academy kit, it gives another set of interesting display possibilities
@fenrismodels
Жыл бұрын
Haha nice!!! Did the Italeri also come with some clear parts? I really like that touch for closed weapon bays, I hope that manufacturers moving forward will start to include them more on applicable subjects.

Masking fluid is a great option if you want to do 1:1 pattern recreation. I use it on my miniatures and fishing lures. Also, I came over from Habitual Line Crosser's video. You do good work!
@fenrismodels
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, my biggest hesitation, which I forgot to include in the voice-over there, was that masking can leave a very sharp line between the colors, and there's a softer transition of color on the real stuff, so I wasn't sure. Kept flipping back and forth on it the whole build, but by the time I got to that step, I was getting so PO'ed at the stupid moisture trap stuff that I wound up choosing the easier route :/
@technewb8241
Жыл бұрын
@@fenrismodels that actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing your thought process on it. I've never really thought about the sharp lines it leaves, since I mainly use it on lures, and the entire thing ends up getting dunked in an acrylic clearcoat
@fenrismodels
Жыл бұрын
There are ways to soften the line too, but I've never really used masking fluid before so I've never looked deep into it. Maybe I'll do so for my next one, actually, that sounds like a fun experiment!

Thanks! Again, the colors aren't *perfect*, but to be honest I think it's a bit hard when you consider that this plane IRL has that special stealth coat paint stuff on it anyway. As I say, close enough is good enough.

@@fenrismodels ah so they must have changed decal company....havent bought an academy kit for quite sometime but the few i have done had horrible decals but as i say its been a few years
@fenrismodels

@@jaws666 It also depends on when the kit was printed rather than tooled. Academy has done Cartograf on and off through the years, and sometimes even go back and get Cartograf to redo decals for older toolings. Moreso than a lot of other companies, I've always felt Academy can be extremely hit or miss. One kit they're great, on par or better than Tamiya or Eduard, then the next I'd take the Revell or even the Mistercraft offering. Luckily, this F-22A is of the former and not the latter.
