So much like my favorite player Monica Seles in so many ways, and perhaps the most important one is that for Naomi, as for Monica, what matters is the tussle, the heat of battle, and that's where she shines brightest, far more than basking in the glow of triumph. It's how she plays the game - courageously, grittily, powerfully, fearlessly - and the win is more the result than the aim. A natural frontrunner and a devastating closer. Watching her come back from near defeat twice was like watching her grow up as a champion in real time. May she have the career that Monica should have had, and may the Lord protect her and her beautiful humility and character. Congrats to the wonderful Petra as well. The very top of the game is suddenly in excellent hands; may they contest many, many more Grand Slam finals over the next decade.
