One police driver purposely swerved out of the way of the of the stolen car in the cul de sac! BIG error in judgement by LAPD. Any collision at the slow speed at this location would have been far less dangerous than almost anywhere else in this high speed chase. PLUS the chase would have ended there, avoiding any potential deaths from the criminals excessive speeds and with no lights.

NO officer is obligated to risk his/her life or have it ended by a suspect in the capture of a violent criminal. High speed surveillance pursuits are EXPERTLY managed and their backup plans change as fast as those in the military, sometimes every 30-60 seconds. What you critics DON'T KNOW of how these pursuits are developed when you DON'T HAVE A CLUE shows you action gore freaks think these are a bunch of ignorant, untrained cops just driving around together looking for kicks and the local Friday night demolition derby or wacko sideshow put on by bored, peasant class ignorant people who lack facts and the minds to process them.

Fact is you can’t just try to Ram them to stop them. Case law requires a way out. You can’t intentionally use what would be deadly force UNLESS the situation would warrant it. A PIT is different than ramming them head on. The cops did exactly what they had to do and that was to move out of the way and prevent themselves from being rammed or ramming the vehicle. The suspect did not do anything up to that point to warrant them trying to ram him to stop him. If he was attempting to strike the officers or had already done it, then it would be a different story. They can’t not escalate force above what is reasonable. And going head on with a 3k pound vehicle is just dumb when it’s not warranted. You may call them keystone cops, but fact is they, not you, know exactly what they are doing.

@@ToyotaGuy1971 It is. Brower V Inyo County. It set the case law for blocking roads. In the video it happened quick. Two things would happen. The suspect would ram the units causing damage or injury to the officers or to himself. If this happened it would probably force a shooting. They can’t just block the road unless there was enough time for the suspect to make a decision to stop. They have to give the guy a way out to prevent an altercation or something happening to them or him. There wasn’t enough time to properly block the road. They know what they are doing, and did exactly what they are supposed to. It may look bad on the video, but they are not trying to play for the viewing public. They are bound by laws to follow certain laws during pursuits, as well as policies. Going head to head with a vehicle at speeds of 20-30 MPH isn’t where you want to be. The risk to officer safety is too great.

And not hold them accountable and not help the victim? That's the problem with society today. Criminals don't fear the consequences of their actions and why should they. Charges are dismissed or lessened, they're offered plea deals, given concurrent sentences, and so they continue to be a nuisance, drain, and perpetual criminal that the rest of us have to deal with. It's easy for you to say just let him go, it's only a car, but it's not JUST a car. I guarantee this thug hasn't just stolen a car. From watching many of these over the past few years, I've seen a LOT of pretty incompetent police work during these chases. I know it can't be easy, but wow... the cops in the LA area seem to be far less skilled than most other major cities. Several examples in just this one instance. Missed opportunities in cul-de-sacs and elsewhere. And at one point the dude was so certain he had lost them that he literally bailed. So what do the cops do? They turn a big old spotlight on him as if to say "We see you! You better get back in that car if you want to keep this going!" So he's like Sure thing! Similarly at the gas station. Who knows if he was literally gonna stop and get gas... we'll never know, because the one cop car couldn't even wait for 30 seconds to see if he was gonna get out of the car, ending the chase. Instead they come flying in while he's still moving, and so whatever plans he might have had change... and the chase is back on. Also one (or more?) failed spike-strip attempts. And several times a dozen cars in a nice neat little row behind him.... for a few minutes... then back off again. So overall, not too impressed. :)
