The first thing I saw that worried me were the loose bights around the outboard's lower unit. Then there was the uncontrolled ascent. They're lucky the the line held, other wise they'd have to wonder which way to go as the outboard came down like a big fluttering sinker. I've done salvage diving and worked on ships for 30+ years. Always keep positive control of a load or you're going to have problems. His hand looks like it might have been the result of getting it caught between a mooring line and a bitt.

Agree. This video is a great tutorial for what NOT to do. Just because they got away with making so many mistakes, it does not mean they were good, just lucky. Worse is that because they got away with the mistakes, they are not likely to fully understand the unnecessary risk they placed themselves in.

First of all you both were down @ 97 feet for less than 5 minutes (4 minutes to be exact according to your video time.) No decompression data, on your person, they do sell plastic decompression wheel charts giot down with grease pencils that you hang on your wrist. Never rely on memory for decompression time and depth. In this case just ascending slowly and breathing normally for the depth and time would have been sufficient. I also saw some panicking when ascending. Apparently poor planing was used. Since you already knew that you would go to 90 feet as marked on the motors. Also you guys should take a course on tying knots. A timber hitch and one clove hitch knot on each of both ends secured to the air bag ring would have been a lot better than 6 half hitches. Last but not least, you had no control of the ascension of the motor, it just flew out of you hands. Boy this was a good video on things not to do while diving for a salvage. You have good diving equipment, but poor diving knowledge.
