The smoke running along the live wire was the most interesting part to me! I wonder what causes that?
@philondez
4 жыл бұрын
Mostly just pulling this out of my rear end but my guess would be that since it was the live side that got smoky this time around that the smoke had at least a slightly positive charge and was attracted to the negative charge of the electrode, kinda the same effect that causes dust to stick to your ceiling fan so vigorously, just with the charge provided by the mains voltage rather than friction against air molecules. If someone has a better explanation I'm certainly interested myself
@IceBergGeo
4 жыл бұрын
@@philondez this wasn't a DC power supply, so positive and negative don't really apply here... It could be that the smoke was remaining a neutral observer... ;) (Maybe it stayed grounded like the cheese and was attracted to the hot wire?)
@RFC3514
4 жыл бұрын
The smoke is being blown out of the hole, which is "aimed" in the same direction as the wire, and then you get a bit of Coanda effect, so it tends to travel close to the wire until there's enough turbulence to push it away.
@cmb1972
4 жыл бұрын
@@RFC3514 I believe the gravitational pull of the moon caused a centrifugal force upon the smoke putting it into a spin, no attraction to the wire whatsoever....and I just pulled that directly from my arse.😄
@Codingale
4 жыл бұрын
It's similar to the other answers, basically what's going on is the smoke was positively, then gets attracted to the negative copper wire you can see it's attraction and not just force of it being blown similar to static on a comb making water bend from your tap due to natural ions in the water. The exact reason would involve many a cheese and scientific study.... for science!

The smoke is being blown out of the hole, so it will naturally tend to follow the wire (which projects outwards from that hole more or less in a straight line). Then you get a bit of Coanda effect making it "stick" close to the wire since there's no external pressure to blow it away from it.
