My dad was not in a high paying job when we were kids in the late 60's but he loved to look at used cars at the nearby used car lot. Every few months, on pay day Friday, he'd surprise the heck out of us with a different used car he just traded our old one for. He came home with a huge, 62 Buick, baby blue w/fins, a early 70's convertible Corvair in midnite blue that looked straight off the showroom floor. He let us kids, me n 3 sisters, put silver racing stripe decals on the hood. My mom would just sigh n say, "Oh now what did you buy". It was always a treat for us when he'd drive home with, always, a different used auto. He once brought home two, '71 & '74 Pontiac Le Mans in all black and a lovely bronze w/white vinyl roof. I can't recall so many others. Just a great memory for me of my childhood here in SE TX. My lovely dad just passed away last Monday. He would've been 93 this Feb 2022. RIP dad.

Um show fabuloso! Jay descontraido, no seu estilo "The nice kid next door with lots of toys who had everything and anything"... And Donald, the intelligent and classy guy who was the neighbor's best friend -- he called the shots regarding who played with what... As Micro-Chips oxidam, toda a electrónica fica deteriorada. The story about the owner of a prize winning horse, who had the animal stuffed by a professional taxidermist . The preserved animal's body looked alive. However, it only had sentimental value -- the glorious racing days were over! Is that going to be the McLaren's case, 20 years down the road? .

I still don't know why you don't own a Caterham Super 7 ... such a wonderful driver's car. If you got a CV with lowered floor, you'd even fit (like me). :-) I will always remember my boss in England who had a Corniche convertible that he took through the car wash across the street. It got stuck. They took the car wash apart around it, because the Corniche was worth more than the car wash. Your story about your mother reminds me of the story James Thurber told about his mother, when his brother rigged up a whole bunch of stuff under the car that would be let loose with a string. She got up around 25 mph and he let it loose, but it didn't work because even his mother could tell the difference between auto parts and miscellaneous tools from her kitchen.

Well, that was just fabulous to watch! Being a JLG (Jay Leno's Garage) fan, I may have heard some of the stories in the past, but here was kind of the rest of the story, or had another entertaining spin. Having lived in Big Sur and worked at Nepenthe I have been to the Concourse d’Elegance a number of times. Pebble Beach is not a ‘snooty’ as you might think . . . it is in California. No matter how many times Frank sings “it’s cold and it’s damp . . . that’s only Monterey. If you drive north to Santa Cruz or south to Santa Barbara, the Sun will come out “Tomorrow “. Any if you’re a “Car Person” (must be PC). This Car Show, and that is what it is,this must be on your bucket list. They always highlight a manufacturer, so watch for your favorite and go. And don’t forget to drive south 30 miles to Nepenthe and have a 🍔 burger . . . Cause that’s what Nepenthe is; a hamburger stand, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright with a Million Dollar View. And if you have a fast car, the drive is magnificent.

Re; the Corvair. Many of us had one of them,, they tossed the belt way too many times and the shift linkage was absolutely terrible. The designers would have done well had they used two belts. One to drive the cooling fan mounted atop the flat four cylinder and another to drive the alternator. The shift linkage had a throw that seemed a half mile long and when power shifting from 2nd to 3rd you could feel the shift cables stretch. It was terrible. The good thing was it was sporty, it was kind of quick and it handled pretty good for the day.
