Like most people, I watch a lot of videos; this one is excellent! The audio is great (clear and loud), the technician explains and shows each step he performs in a professional and no nonsense manner (he is serious and not goofy, not making stupid and silly faces, eye pops, jokes, or other annoying and unprofessional juvenile antics), and he THANKFULLY does not play mind-numbing background music that overpowers his voice. Thank you. First class presentation.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzitem.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Hey I own a stud finder sir, worked 9 months under a licensed electrician and did some college for dropped it because of math requirements. I could wire a whole home hot tub, 4 way switches, ground a house but the schools math made me quit! Pipe bending is not a math requirement! It’s simple observation!
@nhankhuu5643

It is a math requirement... wtf are you talking about? It's algebra for most things and for pipe bend it's basic math to calculate shrinkage. I'm not here to talk shit to you but I'm here to tell everyone who doesn't know any better what you said is simply untrue.

This helped me DIY install a mini split. Other than paying for electrician, everything else was DIY and its working fantastic. I really appreciate the attention to detail on the lineset evacuation. I almost guarantee theres tons of hack hvac techs out there who dont bother the small steps like turning the valves on and off to release air trapped in them, purging all the lines properly. My unit is running fantastic...now after $1000 worth of tools to get here between vac pump, manifolds, nitrogen tanks, micron gauge, valve core removers, vacuum hoses...almost feel like I need to install more!!!

I'm in the same boat. I dropped some money on the proper tools. I eventually want to put minisplits all over my home and get away from ducted ac. It should be a worthwhile investment eventually. I installed my dad's mini split recently, so that definitely felt good.

Ordered mine yesterday, it will take 2 weeks direct from Senville. My head unit will mount to my living room wall which is an exterior wall, right above the condenser unit pad. I hope to make an installation video. The use of the PVC “Sleeve” around the copper, electrical and condensate lines is brilliant, so I will definitely do that. I’ve been watching these installation videos for tricks and hazards and this has been one of the most educational.

Excellent tool layout! Those who don't already own this stuff for other DIY work should know that you can use the vacuum pump etc on your cars and trucks too. If you weld using shielding gas (other than CO2) you can and I have used argon or MIG mix to pressure test HVAC systems if you don't already own a nitrogen cylinder and regulator (I get cylinders/regulators/caddies cheap used, cylinders are filled by exchange most times) since the nitrogen regulators used for HVAC have the same cylinder valve threads as welding gas cylinders. It doesn't use enough shielding gas for the cost to matter and welding shielding gas is technically even more inert than nitrogen which is used because it's plentiful and dirt cheap. Working on my own trucks paid for my equipment the first use and I've done several since.

Anyone think Craig is NOT Italian raise your hand... because his are moving like crazy. Awesome explanation of all the steps Craig. Thank you. Brought your book down here to Brazil for reference. Had to rewire everything the "HVAC Techs" did at my new construction. The work they did is horrible. Our builder said they are very good comparatively and expensive. I told him they'd be the hacks in USA. I paid them $1460 Brazilian dollars (about $300 USD) for the install of four 18K units. Our construction crews ran the line sets and electrical wires while building. Pressure test...nope. Vacuum...nope. Wire connectors...nope. One bolt, not tightened holding two of the units on the outside wall bracket...yep. All the ground wires from four units spliced to one that goes to the service panel...yep. Mini splits fail down here all the time, can you guess why? Oh yeah, no license necessary to be an HVAC installer or tech. So for all those that complain in the USA about the steps to become one there is a reason. Thank you again Craig for your years of dedication to this industry. Your information is always presented in a very professional and clear manner. Muito Obrigado from 5000 miles south.

Thanks Craige I used your guide to do my first install. i added a couple of extra steps to my install and purged the lines with nitrogen before tightening the high side flare nut and after pressure testing I released the nitrogen down to about 1-2 psi then hooked up the vac pump and slowly purged the remaining nitrogen through the vac pump fittings as not to allow any moisture back in the lines. I pulled a deep vacuum very fast without much rise after closing the valves. My unit is a Mitsubishi Bronte 7.1kW Reverse Cycle Split System.

Tips for the one time jack hack jobber. I bypassed the nitrogen test. I used luggage scales and the Torque=Force x distance formula for tightening. No nylog, just go slow and secure with flare fittings. Used cheap AliExpress gas detection device along with soapy water for leak test. Good luck to the first timers. It's a thrill after your first successful AC install. This video shows the perfection of install for pro installers but hack jobbers shouldn't be afraid to do it for their own home as a one time venture to save some money.

What an incredible video. If I was a young HVAC student, you're the guy I'd kill to apprentice under. I'm watching (like many others) because I have NO desire to pay someone an obscene amount of money to install a mini-split. My delima is tryign to find someone who will install a really good mini-split (i.e...Mitsubishi), for an affordable price ($4K for a single zone, including the unit). Or, go with a comparably priced unit with a decent reputation like a Mr. Cool and do it myself. An hour prior to this comment I was given a quote for $7500 to install a 12K btu Mitsubishi mini-split in my 500sq ft garage. There's no way I'm paying that. So, my search continues. The problem with the non-DIY units is having the tools. I followed this video to the letter, but, like many others, I don't have the tools. I've always been a "Do it right the first time" guy. But, not it it means $7500 to cool my central Florida garage. With that being my problem, it looks more and more like the Mr. Cool will be the route I go, unfortunately. That said, I can't say I've heard anything bad about those units either. They may not be as good as the high-end brands, but people are still getting 12-15yrs out of them. Thanks again for taking the time. This was an excellent video.

Perfect, I'll be doing that, I have New Stucco so I'll be going onto the roof instead. Minor adjustments however I think it'll work better because the unit will be out of the way and sound... So yep I will buy the Cooper Hunter. Thank you that was a fantastic tutorial, more later!

Craig, mini split today, the homeowner installed and started up himself with a vac. pump he bought. He had the unit running but decided to tighten down the flare nut extra security. He ended up breaking the flare off. He then front seated the service valves. I made the repair and tested with nitrogen at 275 for 30 minutes, no drop in pressure. Put my 6 CFM vac pump on with fresh oil, and it took quite a while to come down to 480 micron. when I closed off the vac pump (just the same way you did) I had a rise to 1300 microns. this was after I vac pumped it for almost an hour! Only 20 feet of line set. What do you think is wrong?

Did you use a manifold gauge when you vacuum tested? They say any of those hoses or valves could leak. The micron gauge can also leak like he said, and that is why he uses a little oil on the gauge.
