Audi brought out the first e-tron in 2019. Now Audi has given the e-tron an update, including a larger battery and a new name, “Q8 e-tron”. The power of the e-tron 50 is also up - from 313 HP to 340 HP from two electric motors.
I have driven thousands of kilometres in various e-tron models, including those with some of the early electronics bugs. Early models also had a smaller battery and poorer range, but with the new 89 kWh (net) battery, the range has increased significantly.
Expect to get ca. 350-400 km of range in daily use and with highway speed at max. 120 km/h. And expect a lot less if you use the top speed of 200 km/h because at higher speeds the consumption increases significantly.
I tested the acceleration 0-100 km/h to be less than the claimed 6 sec. and my charging test also bettered Audi's promise; although the e-tron only charges with 150 kW at a DC charger, 10-80% took just 28 mins.
This a big car: 491 cm long and 219 cm wide and a turning circle of ca. 12.2 meters. It weighs a whopping 2.6 tons.
The design is modern contemporary, if not a bit conservative. I still love the way the charging ports on both sides open.
The Q8 e-tron is a very competent car for your everyday drive and for long trips, too. The Q8 e-tron is not cheap but offers good value and a high quality. It drives very well, and it is quiet and spacious. It cannot hide that it has a few years to its e-tron name, but it holds up well.
