I have traveled numerous times on RailJet and it's hands down the BEST train in Europe. While the First Class seats seem to be wider and quite upgraded, it seems like they are boxing the business class seats into a cramped cabin. Currently their business class seats are the best seats in Europe, they are spaced out, wide and roomy and very comfortable. Some of the seats are perfect for solo travelers. But now they are sandwiched side by side. I'll make sure to check it out this summer.

Those won't have as many cool gadgets, business class and compartments as the new raljet, but they will have a higher ratio of second class and what seems to me like better seats and better seat pitch, which for me is more important than the gadgets on railjet. Great video as always Thibault, keep up the great work! ❤

I can explain why this train only reached 200km/h, since I made the timetable of the train. Usually this train is a rapid train with conventional cars, and it was planned like that, but around three weeks in Advance I got told to change the train to Intercity but not to raise the maximum speed, since the train schedule already has been publically released and the times shouldn’t change anymore. But at least the train ride until Salzburg was nice and the train was until then on time.

Excellent video! Long live the Railjets. The trains that connect Europe(7 countries), they seriously deserve more recognition! Last year I travelled more than 10000 km easily, but I expected little more from the upgrade to Railjet 2. From my point of view, the current ones are more than sufficient, and in some places (Biz class) even better than the 2. I was also hoping that they would lose the leather on the 1 class seats. Good for 2-3 hours, but when you are coming from Zurich to Vienna, your bottoms are going to be toasted after 5 hours. That's not exactly a first class experience. So I would recommend the second class to 95% of people. The upgrades on economy class are most substantial, good to see that the seats get more “protection” from passengers and also have a handle, and i also love the cabins. Now the only thing is left is to upgrade the German part so we get better speeds in Salzburg-Innsbruck or build a new high speed line in the mountains.

I am a great fan of the ‘old’ Railjet trains, often using them when travelling around Austria on a First Class Interrail The extra second class seats are desperately needed to cope with the passengers generated by the €1095 Euro a year all-Austria Klima Ticket. But I am already expecting to see adverse comments in Eisenbahn Õsterreich about the heavy forces exerted on the track by TWO Taurus Locos! In the last few weeks the San Joaquins new Venture cars started enterung service. Even the delayed Avelia Liberty, that will replace the Acela sets) is ontrack now and hopefully will enter service this year or at the start of 2025. To get an ÖBB style servive rgecUS will have to heavily invest in infrastructure. There are right now some major investments on the NEC but it's focust on soecific year old problems (like reolacing old bridges and tunnels and adding connecting tunnels fron NJ to Manhattan) and not corridor wide improvements.

It will be interesting to see how Business Class fares on the new stock, from what I could quickly see the seats don’t look quite as comfortable, the old seats were veritable leather recliner armchairs with leg/foot rests. I liked the siting of the old business section with compartments and a couple of single seats in an open section shut off away from the busier and noisier first class section. In the new stock the business compartments just seem to be tacked on to the first class open saloon as an afterthought. I look forward to your review, but unless OBB have at least somehow maintained the standard of the Business Class product, I’m less inclined to pay the supplement to reserve a seat, admittedly only another €15.

I think the business class is a shame. And the glass panles between compartments (both in 1st, and 2nd class) is a bad idea, this panel don't give the privacy for the travelers, and if the compartment next to you turn on the lights, but you want to rest, you won't be able to rest or chill, or use your colored light (wich is realy cool). I think the other problem is the trash management. In the 2nd class, the bags might be okay, but in the 1st and business class this is unacceptable. If the ÖBB will solve theese problems, the train will be the best!

looking forward to my first travel on one of these! still, i don't get it why there aren't any garbage bins. i'm sure that was deliberate and there will be a rational behind that decision. but i just can't see the benefit. anyways, thanks for the video!

It lacks class and style. As to the trash bags, I assume that they will soon be replaced by regular trash bins which will drastically limit the legroom (as it happened with entertainment boxes placed beneath the seats on planes).

Why is there only one door per carriage now? That seems like an oversight

I´m very interested which Vectrons will be on the New Gen Railjet. The ones that are currently run for the ÖBB are for freight trains and have a top speed of "only" 160 km/h. But it´s nice to see the new train running.....

How to find out if a railjet is operated with the old or new cars? is RJ2 only used on the railjetexpress RJX connections like Vienna - Zurich or also on the shorter ones - e.g. Salzburg - Wien Hbf ?
@andrelieli
6 ай бұрын
The new Railjets will only be used on the Munich-Innsbruck-Verona line for the forseeable future. The Zurich-Vienna RJX will continue to use first generation trains for now. ÖBB has ordered some double decker Railjets based on the Stadler KISS platform to be used on the shorter non express RJ lines which will be delivered in 2026

Has the height of the overhead continuous luggage rack been changed, or made more visible? I hit my head on the ones in the Railjet 1!

The train is quite cool but their are definitely things that bother me: Bin situation -> with this paper bag concept there is a horrendous amount of paper bags necessary for each trip. Is this really sustainable? Furthermore when the train brakes and bags are filled with garbage or passengers leaving them at the seat that's not that hygienic. Business class -> there is no big table anymore which is suitable for working etc. The business class is fine but definetly a downgrade considering you pay more than in first class. Only one door by carriage -> In the future doors will be broken. If there is only one door per carriage people of two carriages have to use one door and this will be really chaotic and the passenger change will take some time. Lot of stairs and narrow corridors -> Imagine the train is full, you have a heavy luggage and are searching for a seat left, the train is low floor on the entrance but going through it with luggage and lots of passengers can be quite exhausting and difficult I believe. Glass wall between compartment -> the department are really cool but why is there a glass wall between them. When you want it darker and the other compartment has bright light, the light will go into your compartment and furthermore you can see what the people in the other compartments do. There was more privacy compared to old cars. A bit critical I know ~ I definetly like the train ~ but some thoughts have to be mentioned ;-)

I have a question, in Salzburg Hbf I saw the overhead power lines that are made from steel, compare to normal power lines at various stations in europe. explain to me why please and thank you.
@Franjo5000

Because of the bigger steel construction which is part of Salzburg Hbf.

Is there a way to know which daily services these new sets are operating on? I have an Interrail ticket soon and would quite like to try one out.

We’ll just by glimpse of the Business Class on this new Railjet, I’m NOT impressed at all and would most likely ticket on the old Business Class which is better IMHO. 🤔

Interesting that ÓBB have still gone for purpose designed loco hauled stock when everyone else, well, DB and SNCF, have gone for basically commuter EMUs with a different livery and different seat coverings for non-ICE or TGV inter-city trains 😂

Railjet is ÖBB’s flagship quasi-high-speed product. If this were a DB service it would be ICE. DB and SNCF picked “commuter” EMUs for entirely slower medium-distance services and ÖBB did very much the same with the recent purchase of KISS and Mireo sets. These new railjets are custom ordered for cross-border service into Italy. DB has actually ordered similar loco-hauped trains by Talgo for comparable services.

The big difference is that in Austria most of our long distance travel routes either start or end in a different country and ÖBB needs the flexibility to use the same cars with different locomotives, depending on country.
@to_loww

@@digitaleswerken Yes, but the Railjet isn't that flexible as one might think. Only a few are allowed to operate in Italy for example.

Do EMUs have the same flexibility/ease of supporting many voltages/AC/DC supplied by different countries? having a single loco means you only need one set of components that convert/support all the various voltages. @@ft4709

I just can't bare the Vectron front/nose design. It's a pitty they sold so few Tausus outside of Austria and the Vectron with this automotive truck grill is now a bestseller europe wide and also these Railjets did not ask for a proper fast looking new drive cabin design with extra costs for further crash tests... whilst the first series railjets and the american engines based on Vectron tech look great!

I feel like I'm the only one saying this, but the ride quality is worse than that of the Railjet 1. By a good bit. I don't know if it's just me or if there was a fault with my Railjet, but when I rode new and old back to back, that's what I experienced.
