Singapore has a system where overall in charge do not take responsibility and accountability for failures under their charge. They hv completely ignored and forgotten they are paid obscene salary to shoulder such responsibility. Leaders who failed are no difference from dead woods, allowing them to go unpunished is creating a rotting system that encourages more failures. Look at how many ministers that has failed repeatedly u will understand my comment

When one of yr man passed on during training under yr charge, please dont position yrself as 3rd party and punish those low ranking officers. You, as overall in charge need to take responsible for yr failure. Similarly, Minister you reported to fail miserably too n hv to be held accountable too. Where is he?

Wasnt there also a funeral blocking the way that caused the firefighters to be late by 18 minutes? Why is there not much investigation into that ? 18 minutes can be a huge amount of time when it comes to the spread of a fire.

Agree. Officers in all services same at all level. On top of risking own life first and lead in front. At field officer is responsible to make the right decision to send the right men to execute tasks. Inclusive identify inexperience personnel to less risk tasks. Even volunteered personnel, regardless NSF/Full timer/NSmen, officer still responsible to the instruction been given. Officer can't use policy as excuse for misjudgments or unwanted intention. So better suggest and review policy before have to answer for in court.

Can be better by: Some commitment(not a job) are only meant for Full Timer Professional. NSFs are too young and inexperience to face real risks and threat even after the training and certification. Still no matchable to Full Timer. NSFs should deployed to less risk tasks like check equipment of full timer before they go in, understudy command and control, parade, adm at field like Risk Assessment paper works to gain real skills experiences. At same time release Full Timer regardless of age, rank as medically fit and qualify to front line and focus on field. Allow Full Timer to polish and learn new skills. And allow suitable Full Timer to continue serve regardless of age.

To simply charge an officer who was also fighting the fire is unfair. No leader wants this to happen to their men. Doctrines are there as guide but in real life alot of improvisation and out of the box thinking is required. Simply scapegoating and reactive from top brass.

Many 18 years old are thin and scrawny especially during my generation and before. Very likely due to the Asian diet and the family background. Not all families fed their children well with meats all the time. Generally most start to put on masses around 30s. These days more youngsters are getting bigger size though.

From the reviewS result concluded that go thru training and certification is safe enough is result of a safety review approaches. The real risks and threats are not been identified, removed and remained. Hence, likely for recurrence. Because training, certification, SOPs, technology and punishments doesn't mean risk and theats are removed or even lowered. Better review in Total Safety(Environmental Health Safety, EHS) approaches to properly identify real risks and threats to have them under control to prevent recurrence.

Israelis rush back to their country to defend despite the real and high risks. But I read comments here complaining that it is not fair to be paid that low to take real risks. What is our NS really for? Another money guzzing 'cause'? I'd rather not have such soldiers 'defending' our country.

Every country have their different system. And can't avoid rewarding is needed to have commitment. Israel has welfare system that ensure Bereaved parents are eligible to permanent compensation. This inclusive monthly and annual payout. Yet they still have own challenge to convince a consider portion of group to join in defend and tax paying. Success is meaningful only when people(the system/country) enjoy the success. System/ country is not just figure.

This case became very important due to the fact it was a Chinese who died. BUT, the death of Sgt yuvaraj of the Singapore police due to bullying and racist attack has been covered up, his immediate superior who is Chinese got away Scot free, this shows how racism is a serious problem in Singapore despite the big show of Singapore being model state, the racism in Singapore on the minority groups is very sad indeed.

We have talked about the situation of the migrant workers and have questioned the heavy dependence on a foreign work force; we have talked about the gap in income and a need for a minimum wage; we have talked about racism of which there is an on-going discussion. Some of these we are talking about openly were unthinkable in our more ‘normal times’. Can we sustain this conversation? The need for a continued discussion is the first essential attribute of our desire for a better Singapore, a way of imagining a better, progressive, more compassionate culture.
