Those late model beetles are terrible but after seeing what they do with them in Europe I have a new respect for them. I think the first beetle I ever owned was a ‘73. I paid like $400 for it. It was my first VW and I have never gone back ever since. I knew absolutely nothing back then. I didn’t know how to keep it running so I gave it away to my cousin but it served it’s purpose and 30 years later I’m still vdubbing. My second bug was a 1965 convertible which I still have and plan to fix up now that I know waaaaay more. For now I’m focused I’m my 1969 bus which everyone hated but now bay windows are finally getting respect.😊

Late model bugs from the factory used far less rust preventive measures. I believe from memory 1972 was the last year of quality, then a steady decline. I wanna say that is a mid to late seventies model, with out running the vin. looking at the rear fender its got the cut out for the elephant tail lights. And it has the vents behind the rear side windows. These cars just rusted away. Great to see ya giving it life as a donor on some vintage Volks small wonders.

@CT That pan is a rare beastie. IRS rear / Torsion bar front = much better handling. Repaired its worth real $$$$$$ and the chassis panels are available if the top of the tunnel isn't shot. That might well be a semi-auto box in in there! With the high back seats, I'm betting it used to be a 1500cc semi-auto.

Made me think of this... "But I paid extra at closing for rust proofing like the saleman recommended." About that VW fastback at the car yard, I believed they were called Variants. My brother had a similar '69 squareback in the '70s with the pancake engine. It had an automatic and was like driving a gocart but roomy for it's size.
@Ragnar8504
Жыл бұрын
Not sure about the US but in Europe Variant was the estate (and I think any VW estates are still called Variant, e.g. Golf Variant or Passat Variant). Back in the 60s and 70s VWs didn't really have names, they were called "Type x" but that name was only found in the paperwork, no badges or anything. The badges on the car were mostly just the engine size in ccm, like "VW 1600". Ford Germany had a mixed approach, their saloon was called "Taunus 12m" while the van was either an FK 1000 or FK 1200 depending on the engine size (only several years later it was renamed Transit, before Ford UK built what most people know as the MK1 Transit).

yea we were talking about that But there was this beetle out there with 3.88 trans in it that he could sell for what he paid for the body. I think it has a little tighter bend to it though. He needs to get the rubber on that glass and set in in there. Still will need to use the shrinker a little

How do I tell what year my VW Beetle is? The first two digits of the serial number signify the model, the third is the last numeral of the model year and the fourth to tenth digits indicate the consecutive production number within each type. 1971 and 1972 Beetles and larger Type 113 models were numbered in the same series. 1973 Chassis Number: 1132 000 001 - 1432 000 001 -

We use salt and calcium on our roads so u buy a new car or truck it b rusted out in 10-15 years we need to do something different for our roads. And the worst thing is when the towns remove snow they dump it in land fills or the rivers and lakes with all that salt and calcium.

I enjoyed your videos many times so far. I appreciated your restoration works' movies a lot. I notice one point before you get sick due to the infections from tons of debris and rusts while your are dismantled all parts from rotten cars which had been left in any cruel conditions for long time. I think you should better to wash off and blow off the dusts and any debris once before you start tear down old cars. Ii is my opinion, But you are active in Florida, I mean in the south where more virus are active than in the north. If my opinion , it would bother you, please forget my opinion. Anyway, I am looking forward to your videos. Thank you again for all your action on youtube.

You are doing this the hard way why don’t you just take it from the body seam all the way down to where the engine hatch meets up with that rear deck that’s where you get good vents and decent windows very little patching to do on the left rear side, where you’re talking about it as a joke way too much work in the possibility of getting things warped is two great cut 2 inches above the window take everything all the way down that body seam on the side down to where the rear hood engine hood taking up the intake deck will save yourself a lot of grief!!

That's not what a patina looks like, a patina is when the paint wears out naturally and you get areas with so little paint it starts to surface rust, rot is not patina...
