Good choice, island bed and merc chassis, especially for full timing,I've got an escape with fixed bed at the moment good layout but still not perfect! At a guess you will need plenty of solar on the roof and extra leisure batteries, but the homer layout should be ideal,I've just change my license, reaching 70 next month and dropped C1 and all hgv parts, but thinking about full timing might have to do medical and retest if I change fully to full timing,I just do few months at a time, but Brexit must push my decisions forward!Good luck with new adventures,we are only old once!

MotorHomeMan I've got roof panels and 2 gel leisure battery set giving me 220Amp/hours,which along with refillable lpg and 130ltr makes me pretty much self sufficient, got a 1kw petrol generator, but rarely use it,might use the space it takes to get a folding solar panel!fSorry no clue about the Hymer smart battery, but personally I prefer to run the leisure batteries seperate from Sargent control on my van both leisure batts.strait off solar with extra charge from van alternator when driving.I usually run fridge on gas in summer as it seems to work better, also cooking.Ive found on long trips(3 or 4 months)so long as you keep water/gas and diesel topped up at every opportunity the rest of your day falls into place, love peace and safe travels, mate

MotorHomeMan I started with vw camper vans in the late '60s summer of love and surfing!had a family so towed a caravan with vw bus family grew so had big twin wheel caravan, kids grew up and refused to go camping/surfing,along with all this I was an international haulier to most places in Europe including a spell to and fro the Middle East, always had my lorries kitted out for cooking/living foe 3-4 weeks at a time.retired a few years back and had a few motorhome since, but soon found that nothing on the market is a "perfect fit" so with time on my hands and a few skills I've adapted my vans to my needs. With so much kit available these days it's relatively easy to live a comfortable life in the van whatever the conditions, gone past the days of roughing it!
