I think what you are seeing is the result of a difference in the frequency of the lights and the camera. His lights aren't actually flickering. It's like when you are watching a movie and a TV is on in the background (older movies), you'd see a bar always scrolling up the TV picture...that was a result of a difference in the movie camera frame rate, and the refresh rate of the TV.

Carry a spare wiper blade and consider switching to a K&N washable filter. Just don't over oil it and allow it sit on some newspaper before reinstalling it (to wick away any excess filter oil). Over-oiling them can cause oil droplets to cling to the fine wires on you Mass Airflow Sensor (which can also be cleaned with a special solvent made for that).

Also get yourself some slide seal flippers to keep the wiper seals on the slides facing the correct direction for maximum protection from the weather. As you can see when he was talking about the power cord melting, the seal on his slide was not sealed properly. When this happens water, heat, and cold air can enter into the unit. Especially if the middle seal (bulb seal) is compromised or worn out. Water is the number one enemy for RVs. You don't want any moisture getting trapped. Trapped moisture will lead to mold, mildew, moss growth in extreme cases, and eventual leaking. When trapped moisture freezes, you'll then have other issues. Like all the other maintenance items one must do, add cleaning around the slide seals. Pull the slide in about 8 inches. Wash and dry the slide box (top and both sides) and seal from the inside. Lift the flap seal to clean any dirt or debris. Once it's clean use a conditioner specifically designed for slide seals. Then put the slide back out and wash and dry the rest of the slide and seals from the outside. Again, be sure to lift the wiper seal and clean any debris. Follow this up with conditioner. Depending on the type of slide motors, you may be able to tilt the bottom of the slide up in order to clean, check and condition the bottom seals from the inside. To help you bottom slide seals last as long as possible and prevent leaks, always clean the floor before closing the slides. Whenever possible ensure nothing is on the floors before opening the slides. Little sand and dirt particles don't seem like a big deal. However, over time these little particles add up and really start chewing away at your seals. Like sandpaper, you'll eventually have a good size gap for air and possibly water to pass thru. Dirt and debris on the top acts the same way. But with a failed seal on the top, you should be more concerned with water ingress. One little twig logged in the seals of a RV put away for the winter can lead to a destroyed RV in the spring. This happened to my uncle. He didn't listen to reason, neglected to check the seal, didnt ensure the slide was closed completely (not that it would have prevented any damage. Minimized possible.), and didn't bother to put the cover on it. When he pulled it out front, to get it read for their first trip, he knew he screwed up. Inside was a soaked and swollen floor mildew everywhere, delaminating slide walls, and most of the kitchen had destroyed cabinets. It was an entry-level 34" trailer. The subfloor was OSB, slide fascias and cabinets were MDF. He parked it next to the barn. The trailer, with a super slide agape just two inches was parked along side the barn. A barn without gutter no less. So all the water from roof of the barn flowed on to the trailer roof. From the domed roof the water flowed over and onto the slightly opened slide. From the roof of the slide roof. Once the rain. Water was on the slide roof, the twig acted like a siphon. Thus all the damage from 9 months of Western Washington rainy seasons. Yes, seasons was intentional. Another thing to note is the trailer wasn't level side to side. Nor was it pitched up to allow for better run off. In fact it was level front to back. And was leaning to the passenger side just enough for the water to run right in the gap provided by the said twig. I believe it was an Alder twig. There were a lot of Alders where we had last camped the summer before. Anyhow, it was repaired. Somehow he managed to get the insurance adjuster to reduce the damages to just $100 below the totalled value. He paid the difference out of pocket. It was cheaper than taking a loss GAP loss and buying a new trailer. It was only two years old at the time. Ok, so I added my story for added emphasis. Depending on the age of your fifth wheel you may get the manufacturer to come up with a fix for the power cord location and a provide a new power cord. There may have even been a repair notice sent to dealerships with a fix once the issue became known from consumer complaints. The best thing to do is first ensure the manufacturer did this and not the previous owner. Seems extremely odd, they didn't see the potential threat of fire and electrocution risks. If it is a design and/or manufacturing error, send detailed photos of the issue and aftermath via email to the manufacturer while CCing the dealership you purchased it from. If you get no response from manufacturer within two weeks, begin to post the images on their social media feeds saying they ignored your damage, concerns, and you there to warn other unsuspecting consumer of the severe threat of a fire, electrocution, and the injuries or death that could occur in either outcome due to a design flaw they refuse to address. Depending on the state where the pre-owned unit was purchased, the dealership, if an authorized retailer of new units from the same manufacturer, could be liable for the damage and subsequent repairs because they failed to see the obvious danger. If it were me I would, after ensuring the manufacturer placed the furnace and power cord in those exact locations, take action with the manufacturer first. Let the dealership know you are including them in your communication with the manufacturer because they sold you the unit but have no claim against them unless the manufacturer fails to remedy the situation. Furthermore, if the dealer you purchased this unit from is an authorized dealer of new units from the same manufacturer, and they received a service bulletin regarding this issue prior and sold you this unit without addressing the issues in a service bulletin (if one was ever issued), you could actually sue them for negligence. Had that power cord actually set the unit on fire, injuring or killing anyone, or you electrocuted yourself: both parties would be named in such a lawsuit. Ok, ok... Enough of my blabbing. Cheers from Seattle!

Boy, I would make Zinger relocate the power wire, that's against federal law what they did there, the taping the dealer did of the wire is terrible , that won't last. There’s not much about an RV that you can’t customize, fix or change out. It is just a constant project. It’s always good to have a decent model to start with. If you’re full timing it long term, I’d suggest getting a better rig if that’s possible. You get an idea of which fifth wheels are better built than others by looking at key features. Front and back caps, drop down frames, enclosed underbelly, four seasons rated (relatively), one piece shower, mcd roller shades, slide toppers, frameless windows, all are good indicators of a higher quality fifth wheel. However, there will still be things to fix even right off the lot. They assemble these things fast and don’t always use great quality for things such as doors, trim, etc. Full timing it for about two years now. It’s a constant work in progress but that’s part of what I love about it. Always finding new ways to make it my own.

Good points Bob, I been doing research for over a year on what RV I want for full timing. Ill be by myself as i'm only 44 and retired. Cant seem to find anyone who will just pick up and go with me, cant blame them tho! I was looking at truck campers, but I'm not sure if most campgrounds allow them or not. Then again i do want a little more room to relax on rainy days so I have recently been looking at 5th wheels. So far i like the Jayco layout. Seems all of them have issues. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
@BigBobBlazer
5 жыл бұрын
If you’re going full time, I’d recommend a fifth wheel or motor home. But the latter can be insanely expensive. Tow behinds are ok, but are more prone to flip while towing than a fifth wheel. It is also hard to find one that is made to live in full time. As far as Jayco goes, I’m not a huge fan. That doesn’t mean they’re junk, I just didn’t like what I saw. The Jayco North Point is decent, but the Jayco Eagle is one of those lesser 5th wheels I was mentioning earlier. Designed for the weekend warrior, not necessarily full time. Personally I have a Heartland Bighorn 3270rs. I live alone and it suits me just fine. It is made for four season full time living. Tows very well and has not failed me save a few minor issues such as a cheap hydraulic line breaking ($50 DIY fix). Grand Design fifth wheels are nice, but a bit pricey. Once you get your rig, try to fix everything you can yourself, unless it’s under warranty. RV shops kill you with charges.

Most tire issues are a result of either over-inflation or under-inflation. Keep in mind also that a tire filled to max pressure at sea level will be over inflated at higher altitudes like you get in places with high mountain passes. The power cord location is a great example of a builder who knows nothing about the market he sells to.

Not that I ever looked at a zinger but that’s good to know about the shore power. Here a solution they make a connector that is angled and it maybe enough to get the cord out of the way. Very poor design! Pinching your electrical line in the slide. That’s just normal stuff to pay attention to and normal service. The tire problem? Never had that. Went from Florida to Montana last March, no issues with tires like you explained. Been full timing for 8 years now. RVs are like boats you will always have things break, they don't hold value and they cost a lot to maintain. Having said this Full time RV life is great IF you have the income and cash reserve needed to live comfortably.

If you're still running into problems with low engine power due to Fuel restriction which is what a lot of time is it is caused by because they do not put a lift pump in them. Silverados use a CP3 which runs on 4 to 8 inches of vacuum. Easily fix is a fass lift pump. Most of the time this will fix your problem.

"low power to engine?" Doesn't the engine create power? These seem like specific things to a shitty 5th wheel.

Joe Scheller sorry, but the power cord was not an oversight on his part, totally a horrible design on manufactures part. Owner should not have to do a adjustment because of such a poor design.

Sam Kresslein - Honestly, you strike me as someone that’s trying to be pretty. You obviously pay special attention to your appearance, just as a woman would.
