I loved going to Peru as my first South America trip - it actually ties as my favourite spot with Istanbul. It was extremely affordable, I felt very safe as a solo female traveler, the people are so warm and welcoming, there are a variety of cultures and ecosystems, and there is so much to learn about the knowledges and histories of the people indigenous to each area. I loved staying in Cusco, and I think you would both love it. Lima was a very clean city for a capital. And honestly, I loved my stay in the Peruvian Amazon and can’t wait to go back. Peru was so much more than just the touristy areas like Machu Picchu - there is so much to explore. And the food was pretty good with unique cuisines and flavour profiles.

Great video, thanks so much. One statement got my attention. 'In case you have an emergency at home, and you need to hop on a plane, make sure, that you have a little pool of money set aside.' Let me add: 'Make sure that you have a little pool of miles/points set aside.' Whereas last minute one ways paid with money can be outrageously expensive, award tickets can be available last minute at a very decent rate. And, it's a great hobby, actually my only hobby.

We are not married and have traveled the world extensively over the last 23 years. We have been in dirt-floor airport terminals waiting for hours in the South Pacific etc and find that the most important factor in successful travel is being happy with the person sitting next to you and enjoying all the conversations you have not had with them yet. Unless you edit those portions out you guys seem to have it locked.

Not even all the way through it, but what a great video - thank you for it. Yeah, so here I am after my first month of two in Crete, my first stop on my full-time travel journey. (Loving it!) I chose Crete because I know Crete and just needed a place to decompress after my four months of visiting everyone I love in the States and saying goodbye. I mean, it was lovely, but very emotionally draining. As a single dude with no kids and no living parents, I don't plan to be back in America very often, certainly not yearly. Your perspective on Montenegro vs. Albania was very helpful, as I was thinking of one or the other after here, but I've about decided on February in Istanbul. Concerning planning for places to visit, I think I'll continue doing what I did on my long goodbye tour, which is not deciding where I'll be months out. I like getting somewhere and then deciding where next; I know myself well enough to know I have no idea where I'll want to be six month from now, except in a general sense. I mean, I suspect I'm going to want to be in northern Europe this summer, but I do not know that, and I refuse to decide, yet. Anyway, thanks again. I really love your channel. It's very helpful and somewhat validating. Enjoy your time back home. Xaviotes (not my real name) P.S. Have you heard of this word I found recently? Coddiwomple - to travel in a purposeful manner toward a vague destination. It's my favorite new word and life plan, for now.

Funny about the comments about no arguments on your first trip, internationally. My wife and I travel internationally once a year. I travel a lot for work, so maneuvering around the airport is more natural for me. She gets excited (anxiety) with the airport hectic. I always try to stay calm. Love slow travel. Planning to start our slow travel journey in Europe with our dog after our youngest starts college in 3 years. Maybe and hopefully, we will run into each other.

Hi Carrie and Brian! If you ever go back to Turkey. I had recommended Marmaris in a different video. I would also recommend Mardin( Mesopotamia) with over 5.000 years old history and so much culture. The oldest Monasteries in the world 1700 years old, Tigris and Euphrates river is there and so much more, It’s in South Eastern part of Turkey and very safe. The climate is similar to Cappadocia. Mardin Is my birthplace😊 and it’s famous for the best food and rich culture. I also recommend Mick and Trudie to watch their videos. Another great video as always, thanks for sharing. I am 50 and hoping to stop working at 52 and start traveling as you are. I believe the reason people ask about the costs and budgets is because we are curious and a little anxious to know if we too could make it within our budgets. From age 52 to 62 we will need to rely on passive income so it does bring those questions and uncertainties up. Biggest thing we’ve been doing is being debt free and saving 50% plus of our income plus having an apt which will be rented out at that time. I learn a lot from you guys so thanks a lot for sharing.

It also shares borders with Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia….and Uruguay is not far either. Just a suggestion. 😉

Have you thought of going to Morocco? We went over there in October. Amazing country with very friendly people and rich history. Definitely budget friendly, easy to get to and out. We fall in love! Thinking of going back next October, but for a little longer! Highly recommend!

Thank you so much, guys! You two were inspirational for us and gave us the confidence to continue with our early retirement plan. Although we are both Australian, my wife is originally from Czech Republic. She's always wanted to live in her hometown, at least for a while. We took the radical approach, like you guys, of selling everything we owned in Australia in order to move to Europe and retire early. We are a similar age to you and this is definitely not the conventional approach. We don't even admit to many of our friends that we consider ourselves to be retired, because they just wouldn't understand. For now we are living in Czech Republic, but we may eventually do slow travel once we have had our fill there. You, along with a couple of other channels, showed us that it is possible to do this and not follow the norms. Cheers! 🍻

That is so great to hear, congrats on your early, unconventional retirement. It's so hard for many to wrap their head around the possibility when we've been programmed into us most of our lives of exactly when retirement age is and how much you need to reach the "comfort level". Enjoy your time in the Czech Republic - we look forward to getting back there for a longer visit soon. Cheers!!

Great video. You've probably answered this in one of your other videos. However, I haven't heard that one yet. The question is, how much do you budget for your travel? Thanks

I've always enjoyed your videos and this is no exception. We are a few years away from traveling more extensively. For now, this teacher has summers. I just booked the same place you stayed in Uchisar, Cappadocia and decided to split my time between there and another place in Goreme like you did. So thanks for that idea and recommendations. I'm having fun planning a long summer trip to Turkey and Bulgaria. Enjoy your time in the PNW!

Great video and format. I watch them all and enjoy how you create and deliver information. Thanks for your straight forward honesty too ! Doesn’t sound like you’re busking. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on all the cameras and technology to do KZitem but after traveling decided it was too much work, being a solo senior, and felt I was missing out on just the pleasure of being there. The videos are in the can. Happy you have figured out how to make it work and enjoyable.

I always wanted to follow some of y’all’s travels in person and even considered purchasing property with my older sis in Portugal. But with so many changes over there I’ve changed my mind. Lately I’m really considering Medellin Colombia. Their Infrastructure has improved so much and communities like Laureles and El Poblado are beautiful! Bogota has changed a lot too in a great way… I follow a couple guys who live there. You can probably search for them but didn’t want to put their names here if it’s not okay. Happy New Year! Keep the travel and Q and A videos coming. Luv y’all!

Great seeing you guys back! Hope you had a great holiday. I'm glad that you're considering Buenos Aires. It's a really great city. I was there in December 2008 and got an apartment for part of the time that I was there. I had planned to be there in summer 2009, as I was totally booked back to Bangkok for the annual Dec/Jan trip, but at the last minute, the Yellow Shirts protested and closed down the international airport. So, I had to shift gears really fast and went to Buenos Aires instead. Being flexible is a key to travel. I also hope that you go to Brazil. It's a very interesting and diverse country. Greetings from Los Angeles

My wife and I have just done the same think, retired early and are travelling around during the winter and going home for summer. We are debt free too, but survive on one pension and therefore have to budget too. We are thinking about downsizing our UK house in the future but can manage for the time being. Wild horses could never drag me back to work for sure. The point of my comment is that I love the way some of the answers are surprise even to Brian......! If you get chance give our channel a quick watch and let us know what you think. Mike & Cheryl

I loved the answer to the question what you would have done differently. I am 10 years younger and saving up and sizing down is exactly what I am doing now. Many people don't understand, react irritated or deride early retirement plans. I think that most people are so deeply stuck in our consumer society they can't accept somebody deviating from it.

Thank you for your time and posting. In my opinion, it is so sad that Americans can't afford to retire early, or even at the appropriate age. I see so many seniors taking crap jobs instead of taking vacations. Maybe for your next question/answer video. How much time do you spend planning each trip and can you break the planning down, please? Thank you. :)
