You guys seem to be very happy in the van. Those slow mornings really suit you, you've been so stressed lately and it really feels like this trip gave you the opportunity to breathe. And I just have to say how beautiful Exmoor is, it looks like a cozy and quite wonderland! It's super easy to imagine some mythical creatures walking around this old landscape, so stunning! I hope you guys are doing well, much love xx 😘💕

Hi, dad says hi, he watched it earlier as I had jobs on, exmoor is amazing, it’s so peaceful.. great result on the cooking, the new fan is the condensation killer.. I never knew about 15 national parks but I guess you learn something new every day! And a cup of tea ☕️, can’t miss out on a tea! 😂😂👍 I would like to have a good walk around the moors, can’t do it with the old man though, he’s 80 soon.., an amazing energy read on the solar panels! Evening dinner looks amazing!! Just let it all soak in and enjoy the hell out of having a good old explore! The woodland walk looked very interesting.. I can almost feel the peacefulness through the tv lol 😂, very unusual tree though.. do you ever gps yourself back to the van after a wander in the woods? I always fear getting lost 👍, great video guys! See you next week 👌👍😎

You know we can't make a video without a cup of tea Mark 😂Glad you could feel the peacefulness of the woods through the TV, it was such a special place which can be hard to get across on video sometimes. With getting lose, we usually use an app called All Trails to find local walks near us, it uses GPS to keep track of where we are so we don't usually get lost, especially as we can use it offline too 🙏 Highly recommend it if you like exploring! I agree, Dartmoor is stunning and the largest onland outcrop of the Cornubian Batholith, which gives it its beautiful Tors. High Willhays at 621m is the highest point in the SW and gives amazing views of Dartmoor (when there is no must, fog or rain 😂). Exmoor is a totally different high moor, no granite intrusion below it. It was formed from desert sand during the Devonian, and an out wash area during the ice age which helped form eg. Valley of the Rocks (one of my favorite places to hike on Exmoor). Great Hangman, at 250m above sea, is the highest cliff in England. I also love Doone Valley. There are beautiful walks there. You should do those another time😊.

@@OverlandingSophia Yes I am a geologist 😊. Great that you have been to Valley of the Rocks.. Out of season is always great. If you go in season, go early and do the main rocks, then walk the coastal path from VofR, then you will be ahead of the crowds. Though to be honest, most tourists only climb around the main part of VofR and up to the Great Hangman. The tea room next to the cricket pitch does lovely cream teas.

Great to see you all back on the road again. I'll have to try those wee plant based lardons. You do lovely meals in the van. How did you make that tofu look tasty and interesting 😋
@OverlandingSophia
3 жыл бұрын
We coat the tofu in flour, fry it and throw a tasty sauce on it 🙈It's so easy though and really quick to make! Definitely recommend those lardons if you can get your hands on them. Making meals on two hobs can be a challenge at times, but we're getting back into the swing of it 😀 xx

You two are a great couple, not forgetting your little companion. Can I ask: do the extra windows in the van reduce the insulation by much or will you have to wait until winter to find out? Second, when you did the re-build you opted for just a hob rather than the original one with a grill and oven. Why was that?
@OverlandingSophia
3 жыл бұрын
Ah thank you so much, that’s really kind of you! 💛 To answer your questions, the windows don’t make much difference to us at the minute. Like you say, it might be more noticeable in the winter but right now it’s hard to tell. We ditched the oven because we just never used it enough and it was an extra 12kg of weight that was wasted 💛

Tick removers are so necessary now. Have you tried Bravecto? Your vet prescribes it, one tablet every three months and it kills ticks before they can latch on properly. I use it for my babies x

Nice film, enjoyed my vicarious forest walk from the comfort of my sofa. Exmoor is quiet because 99 per cent of people are hammering their way up and down the M5 either going to Devon/Cornwall or coming back from them. It's the same with the Yorkshire Dales, most people stay on the M6 or head for the Lake District. Dog looks bigger, is she still growing? I'm vicariously planning to join you on your trans-Africa trip and for some reason I'm spending a lot of time worrying about which is the least dangerous of the routes down. East or west? This is the question. I follow Itchy Boots (YT), who is currently motorcycling across Namibia having bought her bike in South Africa. Stunning, stunning landscapes. Like being on the Moon at times. I hope you are able to check this country out, I think you would enjoy it. Best wishes.

So true! People just drive past on their way to Devon and Cornwall. It’s such a little gem though, we didn’t even scratch the surface of what you can do there. Haha that question is a good one! This route used to be the safest (in our opinion): East Coast - Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, SA. But, we have a problem as currently Ethiopia is in a civil war and borders are shut. Going west, you can’t currently drive south from Morocco into Mauritania. It’s a difficult time to cross Africa 😔 We’re going to be putting an update video live in a couple of weeks letting you know what our plans are xx
@trailingarm63
3 жыл бұрын
@@OverlandingSophia It's a fluid situation but I believe Ethiopia's land borders are open again. There are Covid rules to conform to but that will be the case on most borders. The civil war is an internecine affair between tribal/regional groups and as you two are obviously not Ethiopian it's unlikely the combatants would bother you. Other than that I think it has always been a difficult time to cross Africa!
@OverlandingSophia

@@trailingarm63 Ethiopia’s land border with Sudan is closed I’m afraid! The civil war is between the government and the Tigray region in the north… and it’s just been an absolute massacre. Heartbreaking and utterly unnecessary violence on both sides. Its very close to the Sudanese border. And that’s our only route south. It’s ironic that Covid isn’t actually the barrier to our trip, but our worries are nothing compared to what those caught up in the war are going through 😔
@trailingarm63

@@OverlandingSophia Well there's always Scotland! I've now read up on the al-Fashaga dispute between Sudan and Ethiopia and it doesn't look like an easy one to resolve. So that route is probably out for a long time. I then thought about driving down the Arabian peninsula and hopping over to Africa on a ferry but that may be impossible too (Yemen?) Given Mauritania is also out, I have a radical suggestion. Ship the van from London to Cape Town, you two fly down then drive a big circle around the southern half of the continent and back to SA. That could sort out my YT entertainment for a year. Only problem then is the dog!

Good question! To be honest, it would need to be really, really cold to freeze the water tanks. We don't plan on being anywhere that cold anytime soon. But if it did happen, we have our Lifesaver jerry can that we can use for potable water 😊

Quick question guys, can you give an insight to toilet and shower facilities? I am currently on the look out for our first van that we plan to live in full time and not sure on a van or actual motorhome Thanks Ollie 😀
@OverlandingSophia
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ollie! We have a composting toilet from Simploo which we absolutely love and couldn’t recommend enough. I guess we could use supermarkets etc if we didn’t have it, but I think having your own toilet makes life a lot easier. We don’t have a shower and wash everyday in the sink. I wash my hair in there too so don’t miss a shower that much. We plan on getting an outdoor shower that’s a submersible pump for warmer weather that we can quickly wash down with. But to us, a shower inside is too much weight and space. We wouldn’t use it enough to justify it. Some people wouldn’t be without theirs though so I guess it depends on the person! 🌟

Hello! The new 'van laws' are part of a much broader legislation change that includes criminalising protests etc, and I'm pretty sure MPs have voted to allow the new amendments.
