Hang onto that Hills hoist. They are the best for drying the clothes fast. Way better than the lines that are stuck onto the side of the house. Your home will look beautiful and I just know you will be so happy there. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I will enjoy watching your adventures in bringing this sad house back to life again. All the best.

A bit of advice from someone who took on a similar project many years ago. Clean everything and so you can move in straight away. You sound like you are a person who can make do. Then get the roof replaced/repaired asap. Get the garden cleared so there is no further damage to the structure. When you are ready to start on the inside, do not go at it like a bull at a gate. DO ONE ROOM AT A TIME!!! No matter how tempting it is to do a whole lot all together, do not do it. It can become overwhelming to see every room at some stage of renovation, but nothing actually finished. (I learnt this the hard way). You sound very level headed for a young person, I wish you both all the luck in the world 😊

I too am looking forward to watching your ups and downs of your repairs and restoration. The house should have good 'bones. Remember that you will have lots of mossies from your backyard creek. Lucky you that you have a 'real ' Hills hoist which will last your lifetime. Mine is 54 years old and still looks like new😁 The sand and dirt probably has been brought in by ants over the years of being empty. But your cornices are a lovely design.

In regional Victoria houses or shacks that are falling apart used to sell for around $100,000 to $200,000. Since Covid and The subsequent housing crisis those properties have doubled in price and still sell!. Can you imagine that, paying top Dollar for a dump. Australia is not the lucky country anymore.

@@sherlee123 definitely not heritage ( mind is built 1969/70 & not 'heritage) but a great size house 4 bed 2 bath which in the 70's like mine not a thing to have. I am surprised that the floor tiles have not begun to lift and she didn't mention any cracking whichnis excellent. Often homes left empty do have their floor tiles move and crack. I helped clean out a friends house which was abandoned for maybe 15 years along with also cleaning out my grandmothers house after she died. Some of the cans of food vegetables, baked beans.. were great still to eat and i think those were over 20 to 30 years old by the very different labelling to todays of a common brand and actually tasted better then their baked beans they can today! The sauce was richer in flavour. I discard any cans which were discolored at all on the inside. I wish I'd made a video of eating 20 to 30 year old canned food.

What about the malevolent angry spirit of the deceased old angry man who actively haunts the premises? Driving away anyone else who has shown any interest. I'd camp in a tent inside and just see if you can last a night before pouring money into a haunted house that your too scared to live in. Hopefully the spirit can see that your saving he's home and arnt changing too many things. He may well let you complete Reno's then amp it up to 10 with beetle juices assistance to make you run away screaming abandoning the property in much better condition at no cost to psycho Joe the ghost with the most. The pads looking killer and no rotting food in the unplugged old kelvinator. The ghost can continue haunting he's home because the maintaining is upto scratch for another spooky 30 years.

A real fixer-upper. I can imagine what I would be doing in that reno. Step 1: The outdoors. Cut back all the trees and plant HARD! It's not hard for plants to grow in Queensland, if you go gentle, in 6 months you'll be overgrown again. Step 2: Plumbing and electrical. Make sure all the water leak and drainage is sorted. Tree roots are not your friends. Get the electrical safe and legal. Step 3: The roof. Strip the tiles and check the condition of the frame. Some lagging and metal roofing. Get the gutters redone. Step 4: Strip the house interiors. All cabinets, fixings EVERYTHING! And any bad carpets, damaged floor tiles etc, time for a fresh interior. Step 5: Remove and redo the ceiling plaster. Check the condition of the beams etc. Get some ceiling insulation in. Step 6: Patch all the walls. Get the floors sorted. Step 7: Cabinets for the house. Kitchen, bathroom, laundry etc. Now after 3-5 years and $100-150k, you can move in ;) Then the challenge to get the outside done starts. Kind of jealous of the challenge you have, but geez I would have fun as a side project during my free time. And the skills I'd learn!
