One thing that always gets me is that Ed pretty much never says he wants to get HIS body back, it is always "our bodies" or "Al's body". He knows he made the mistake, and was punished for it. He can live with his penalty, but he can't live with the life he forced on Al. (As he sees it.)

This is the episode that really got me hooked as a kid. Fantasy and magic was already moreso my thing than a scifi story. My dad passed away when i was 9 and my dumbass child brain thought "wow i wish i could bring my dad back" and totally ignored the fact that the boys lost so much in that attempt.

I'm locked in, subcribed, bell is rung - ready to rewatch this entire show with you two. I love how quickly invested Kim is and how clearly passionate about the show John is. My only request - please try to do more than 1 episode per week (if you can manage it and have the time), the thought that I'm gonna be waiting over a year to see you reach the final episodes is a bit depressing haha

⚠ NOT SPOILERS, READ TO AVOID MISSING IMPORTANT DETAILS IN FUTURE EPISODES ⚠ Episodes 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, and 49 have scenes after the credits; they are sometimes just fun little vignettes, but often they include significant details that will be relevant later on, and that might make some future events confusing if you haven't watched them; it's therefore highly recommended to watch them. If you don't have this list at hand, just look at how much time is left in the video when you get to the credits; if it's more than usual, there's almost certainly a post-credits scene. Furthermore, the credits in episodes 45, 54, 63, and 64 are different than usual, and worth watching (especially the ones in 64, which everyone will probably be expecting a reaction to).

An interesting detail about the events of this episode: As it was explained, the position of state alchemist is highly coveted among alchemists in general (despite having to work for the army) due to the amount of access to classified info that they can get for their personal research and government funding. I wanted to point out this because it helps to explain something: The reason why Roy Mustang delayed his scouting process/visit to Ed and Alphonse was because when he heard the rumors describing "how brilliant the Eldric brothers were", his first thought was that they were like two 30 year old men and that the rumors about their talent were being greatly exaggerated in an attempt to get scouted. He got REALLY surprised when he arrived to where they lived and found out that "the brillaint Eldric brothers" were just a pair of kids. Because of this, after clearly seeing their immense talent (and their tragic mistake) he knew that he needed to recruit them. However, it's also implied that this was also his way to make amends in a way because he probably would have been able to stop them from attempting human transmutation if it wasn't for the fact that he delayed his visit to them.

glad you are enjoying this dub. i prefer sub when i'm watching too but generally feel dub is better for reactions. the chopped up nature makes it harder to follow and the reactors themselves have to focus on reading to the point their overall reactions are more limited.

Basically the difference is, what Ed is doing like taking a block of clay and shaping it into something and only using that clay, it's still the same amount of materials just in a different shape. But the guy in the rumors, Cornello, is doing the equivalent of turning that same block of clay into a whole house. It's not *physically* possible because that's more material than he started with. Which is what they're investigating.

I must admit that I find the original anime series (the one that ended up moving away from the manga since it wasn't finished yet) had a better start than the brootherhood one. They eventually reach the same point in half the time in brotherhood, but rushing like that was kind of detrimental to the characters in my opinion.

Meanwhile, the Dad is fighting against the "Universe Devourer", defending the continent on the front lines, and all he can think is "I want to go home, Ed will turning ten by now, and Al, also...Trisha, my love, just wait for me a little longer. Dad is coming back soon, but I can't let this beast enter the country, I must protect you, my beloved family!!!". It turns out he is the only Alchemist who can actually damage this evil creature, given that the alchemy he uses is so complex nobody else can understand it. Just like the Mom said to her sons: "You are so much like your Dad, my little geniuses!!!". (Fake story, obviously...or is it????)
