I just got this year a 97 crown vic. It was my grandparents and I feel a need to keep it for the rest of my life and keep it going, just about to hit 100k miles. Its big and comfy and I use the cruise control and set it to 74mph so I don't get pulled over.

My grandparents had an 88 Crown Victoria and then replaced it with a 92. Growing up in one is probably the main reason why I even became interested in the cars and still enjoy them to this day. Interestingly enough the cruise control didn't work in my Grand Marquis or my Crown Victoria.

They don't build nice road boats like this anymore. I still prefer the grill-less front end of the first "aero" model year ('92), though I find the taillight design of the later '95-'97 models more attractive. The C-pillar of "aero" Vics is a bit weird (the '91-'96 Caprice had a better-looking silhouette). The Vic's rounded design strongly reminds me of the "bubble" cars featured on that 90s Nickelodeon cartoon Doug I used to watch as a kid.

Me personally I prefer the 92-94 Crown Victoria, with the older style of tail lights and no grille or 93-94 grille, never cared much for this grille or taillight design, but it's okay seeing as how I'm buying a 95 marquis when I return home from a vacation in about 2 weeks, papers were signed before I left, it will show up on my channel sometime around then

Nice car man! I have a 96 with the HPP package and have experienced some of the same issues you mentioned. I got the abs light with the same code on my car but the problem was intermittent, sometimes it would appear every time I turned the car on, other times I would go a month without seeing it. It would usually pop up after reaching 13 mph for the first time which is when the abs pump does it's second self diagnosis test. I ended up spending a whole lot of money chasing down the root cause for the problem but I can confidently say its the abs module that's malfunctioning, the pump itself should be fine. Its actually a common problem on these cars even on the later models, something about the quality of the soldering in the module. I had mine removed and sent it to a company called "modulemaster" and they repaired and sent it back in less than a week, problem fixed. I've driven around 10k miles since then and had a couple close calls where I've slammed on the brakes and everything works perfectly as it should. I recommend you consider this if the light keeps coming back. As for the air suspension, its normal for the pump to run every time you start the car, the way the system works is every time you close your doors, the air suspension module checks the current weight of the car, if it notices that you're no longer in the drivers seat it will decrease the air in the bags, once you get in again and close the door it will re-inflate to compensate for the extra weight. What I did notice is that you said sometimes it takes longer for the air suspension to fully inflate which to me is indicative of a leak somewhere in the system, it shouldn't take any longer than 10-15 seconds unless you've lifted the car up. Still, I'd say its worth it to keep the air suspension system if you plan on hauling around a lot of items as it will keep the ride level at all times, it also came stock on the mercury marauder so you know its better performance wise over conventional shocks. And please don't sell it! Unmodified crown vics such as yours are becoming increasingly rare as the years go by, who knows maybe one day they'll be as sought after as the classic impalas lol

Thanks for the info. I've only had that abs light come on twice so hopefully it won't appear very often but if it does I'll look up that company. I would consider replacing the air suspension bags with new ones assuming I can get one of my local Ford dealers to want to do it. I hear most people just convert them to springs but as long as the pump and solenoids still work, I think the bags themselves are fairly cheap. It would just depend on how much labor is involved. My main issue is the rear of the car always has a clunking/thud sound over any bumps. It passed a bounce test so I'm not sure if the shocks are bad or not but if they're the original it probably wouldn't hurt to replace them. The only issue might be trying to get the nut on the top of the shock off if it's rusted on since it's in a tight space. The only way I'd sell it is if someone was willing to pay well above the book value for it because they know they're hard to find in this condition or if I could get a low mileage Town Car in similar condition.

@@Mr.Everything No problem! And yes, i also had trouble finding a mechanic who knew how to work on these air suspension systems, luckily there was one remaining guy in my area who only worked on town cars and he fixed many of the mistakes previous mechanics had done to my suspension. I think Arnott brand airbags are the way to go since oem ford-firestone bags are almost impossible to find. The ride quality feels the same to me only because arnott bases their bags off of the ones for HPP vics, regular lx trim came with softer airbags so you may feel a bit of a firmer difference in ride quality if you decide to buy them. When i replaced my bags, i also did the shocks for convenience sake, there doesn't seem to be a lot of components to the rear suspension so your clunk may just be that. Also, keep in mind that the air suspension uses special oem motorcraft shocks (part #: AS2010G) not sure what the difference is compared to the base model shocks but they're the ones I bought just to be safe.

I have a Lincoln dealership right down the road from where I live and they regularly sell Town Cars and Grand Marquis so they may be experienced with repairing the air suspension assuming they don't just convert them to springs. My next decision is to get newer tires too. I want to stick with white walls but the only 2 options I see in my size that aren't no-name brands are Vogue or Uniroyal tiger paws. The Uniroyals would be a lot cheaper than the Vogues but I've read both have good reviews. As far as I know Michelin no longer makes the white wall tires that are currently on it.

@@Mr.Everything yeah there are very limited options for white walls but i think either one would look good on your car 👍
