Great video! Two things that I think are worth mentioning: 1. There is a chiss civil war going on. 2. Thrawn knew who Vader was/is 3. Vader is conflicted even at this point of the story. 4. You can use the force to do hyper jumps. As far as I know that's a use of force powers I hadn't seen before. I know you said that you didn't like this book as much as the last one, but I really loved it. While Thrawn answered a lot of questions, it mainly was back story. This story laid the groundwork for a whole bunch of stories which makes me very excited for future books.

The Clone Wars plot of the book seems to be borrowing some inspiration from the Game Boy video game: "Star Wars: The New Droid Army" especially with the thought of B2 battledroids being outfitted with cortosis armor. The way Thrawn taunted Vader, especially in regards to his suspicions that Vader was once Anakin was pretty fun. I remember by the end of the Tarkin book it had seemed Tarkin had recognized the same thing. But while Tarkin kept it secret, Thrawn seemed ready to use it to see if he could pry more information out of Vader. Kind of a funny contrast between those two famous Imperial leaders. I am also so ready to go sit down in the cantina at Batuu when Galaxy's Edge opens and start asking the bartender if anybody there has legends of the time Darth Vader got in a bar fight there? :P

@Rosefire
6 жыл бұрын
It's a possibility that Ezra had a vision about it similar to Kanan who was able to see future events. Now that Force-sensitive Chiss have been confirmed, I'm interested in reading about Ezra brought to Chiss homeworld to teach these children. Perhaps with proper instruction, they'd learn to hold onto their skills instead of fading away.
@The_Best_Major

That makes no sense. No way would Ezra ally himself with Thrawn's people to fight the Grysks and teach the Chiss children the ways of the force.
@Rosefire
6 жыл бұрын
But what if it they had a common interest? I'm sure Ezra would have no reason to trust Thrawn after everything the Grand Admiral did to his people. At the same time, I doubt Ezra would want to let the Empire invade Chiss space or allow Grysks to kidnap the Force-sensitive children for their own use. Or worse, the Emperor could corrupt those children to turn them to the Dark Side. Ezra may not want to help but I doubt he'd stand idly by if the galaxy was in danger of further invasion.

Now, seven years later, he's made it canon!

Star Wars explained! I just noticed a reference to the game Republic Commando in Thrawn Alliances. When Anakin stabs one of the new B2 droids in the eye he notes: "There were Clone troopers in the 501st who claimed to have taken down B2s by shooting them in the eye. Anakin had never quite known whether those stories fell into the category of fact, boast, or wishful thinking. " In the game the B2 droids are very difficult to take down, but some people claim to have taken one down with a single shot to the eye. It's almost impossible to do and I know people who have claimed to have done it but I've never managed to do it and I've played the game many many times. So their claims sound like boast or wishful thinking to me! I'm not sure if this is a direct reference to the game or if it is just a similarity but it stuck out to me!

So many good things here, my particular favorite was cortosis and it's role in the success of Order 66. Lucas did a poor job of making the fall of the Jedi believable but Mr Zahn is effectively picking up the slack now. I feel that with his additions the prequel story is being elevated. I also loved the way he separates the mental processes of Vader from Anakin and how Vader thinks of his past self.

I had a feeling that Ezra and Thrawn would wind up in back in Chiss space, training force sensitives against whatever is formulating in Unknown Regions, eventually being joined by Sabine and Ashoka. This book set that up nicely. Though I figured it would be a resurgent Sith Empire. The threat as presented doesn't seem nearly as overpowering as that. They do however seem like the sort who would be glad to use an exiled Imperial remnant to further their purposes.

@Rosefire

I think it has something to do with Chiss culture and lifestyle. Because if those powers are fading away even with constant training, something is missing. Or it could signify a spiritual void in the Force. Either way, I like to think if Ezra met these children, perhaps his Jedi teachings could help strengthen their abilities so they wouldn't fade away. The Chiss are rational-thinking warriors whereas Ezra was taught to let his guard down, be in tune with his emotions, and trust people to open up to the Force. There may be a balance to be found between both philosophies. Either way, Zahn set up a fascinating conflict to be addressed in future stories.

If you want to go with the midichlorian explanation (which I like because it fits nicely with cellular biology), it could be physiological: if midichlorians act as the biological interface between the Force & the being/person, then the Chiss could lose their midichlorians as they go through puberty, and physically be unable to sense the Force. But, since it's something which happens as they age, they could still pass Force-sensitivity on to their children.

I really liked all the stuff with the First Legion. shows that the Stormtroopers can actually be very good soldiers, and it explains how they breach ships as seen on the Tantive IV. However, yes we must consider that these are the creme of the crop. The best Stormtroopers from the best Stormtrooper Legion (the 501st). So I guess still the average rank and file trooper might not be too good. But at least we know they are out there. In fact it explains why they won on the Tatntive IV and Echo Base, because they were 501st because they were with Vader.

Grand Admiral Thrawn I thought most of the Near-Human species could produce offspring with baseline humans?

Yes, most species can, but the Chiss are a species that have evolved and lived for millennia in isolation. We may still vaguely resemble a human but we are genetically very different.

Oddly enough, yes. While humans and Twi'leks appear more distinct from one another, genetically they are similar enough to allow for interbreeding.

They’re canabalizing the Vong, that’s sad. I wanted them to be the new big threat after the sequel trilogy.

I was really unhappy with Zahn's writing of both Anakin and Vader.
