WELCOME TO DAY 1 OF THE 7 DAYS HEALTHY PELVIC FLOOR CHALLENGE 🌺
👭This challenge is free and is for everyone, including beginners and women of all shapes and forms. All exercises are about 10 minutes long and you can do them from the comfort of your home.
📆Once you have finished the challenge I do recommend that you stick with all or some of the exercises for at least 3-6 months. Then you evaluate and decide on the next steps on your healing journey based on what your body is telling you. Natural healing is not a quick-fix so please give your body time.
Today we are diving into our breath. Functional breathing plays a pivotal role in maintaining optimal pelvic health and overall well-being. The pelvic floor, a complex network of muscles, ligaments, fascia, nerves and connective tissues, is intimately interconnected with the respiratory system and the way we breathe. Here's why prioritizing functional breathing is essential for pelvic health:
1. Core Connection: Functional breathing facilitates proper engagement of the core muscles, including the diaphragm, transverse abdominis, and pelvic floor. When we breathe diaphragmatically, the pelvic floor descends and relaxes on inhalation and ascends and contracts on exhalation, promoting coordination and balance within the pelvic region.
2. Improved Circulation: Deep, diaphragmatic breathing enhances circulation throughout the body, including the pelvic area. Adequate blood flow is crucial for delivering oxygen and nutrients to pelvic tissues, supporting their health and function.
3. Reduced Tension: Dysfunctional breathing patterns, such as shallow chest breathing, can contribute to muscular tension and imbalances in the pelvic floor. By cultivating functional breathing habits, we can release tension in the pelvis, alleviate discomfort, and prevent conditions like pelvic pain, incontinence or prolapse.
4. Stress Reduction: Functional breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels. Chronic stress can exacerbate pelvic floor issues by increasing tension and impairing pelvic function. By incorporating mindful breathing , we can mitigate the impact of stress on pelvic health.
