Wow, that was very helpful. Just started to explore the topic, and this lecture cleared a lot of fog. Massive thanks for putting this on KZitem and keeping it here, accessible to everyone.

Based on XANES experiments, what is the timescale for reducing metal ions (+X; where X could be 1, 2, 3, or more) to metal atoms (+0 oxidation state)?

I think the guy who asked about the spectra beyond absorption edge is probably asking how and why the spectra evolves as the energy scale is getting higher. XAS (gausian)and XAFS is slightly different in that respect, I think this is his question. My perspective: After the edge jump there is no major energy that is absorbed by the sample. Post edge the absorption feature gets slowly towards lower y axis value. The extra energy beyond edge allows different complex phenomena to happen so we see a different feature. It is best understood in inverse position. Give it a thought. Or read Bunker book.

Firstly, hearty thanks for the wonderful informative video. I am a Chemical Engineer and my research is in catalysis. Much of the chemistry and other stuff discussed require an explanation. So can you make a video for beginners, for people outside the basic science background? Also, a detailed video on NEXAFS and EXAFS along with the interpretation of the spectra would be of greater help. Thanks and looking forward to the requested content.
