RJ… looking back a little bit, I really appreciate your take on these Sharpfinger knife patterns. Seems as if I have always owned an Old Timer Sharpfinger knife. Over the years I’ve picked up several of these Sharpfinger, most are made overseas, but I have a few in carbon steel that are made in the USA. Sometimes I carry a Sharpfinger on my belt, others I just throw it in a bag that I’m carrying when a belt knife would draw too much attention. Small, compact, cuts all the time, and easy to sharpen. But, after viewing this video of yours, I decided to pick up one of those Bear and Son #733 Upswept Skinner (Sharpfinger) knives. I must say that I really like that knife. The 420 steel is good for a sharp edge and it holds up well. Most importantly, I can sharpen it without a bunch of special angle devices. In in the USA right there in sweet home Alabama and it’s only a few dollars more than a foreign made Old Timer. So I’m glad that I got the Bear and Son Sharpfinger. I’ve been carrying it for several months now and it has become my “go to” knife for most any cutting task. Now I am on the lookout for any made in the USA Sharpfingers. New, used, discarded, or in need of rescue, I’m interested. I really appreciate your reviews. - Tennessee Smoky

Thank you, Tennessee Smoky! I really appreciate your comment. I’m glad to help you find the Bear and Son version. I think the Sharpfinger is a real gem. And the 420 steel is a great everyday steel. Enjoy your knives!

My 152OT is great, but mine came with a nasty nylon sheath! I want a leather one, not kydex. I do fancy the posh one! My son-in-law bought me it as it says Old Timer on the sheath… cheeky B!

Great video RJ! I really like that Bear & Son skinner! I had an old USA made Sharpfinger that my sister gave me years ago but it disappeared somehow in all the moving I did a few years back. I still hope I'll find it in a box one of these days along with my old Buck 119, but I think I'll pick up one of those Bear & Sons at some point.

I’ve also thought that bear and son is making the generational knives for old timer, the blade shapes on their trappers look really similar. But I don’t know for sure either. Happy fun knife Friday, buddy!

You like Sharpfingers? who would've guessed hahaha. Oh did you try if the other sharpfingers fit the kydex sheath? The OT costs a lot more, but it's definitely the most beautyfull. Thank you RJ.
@RJsKnives
Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome, Jeroen! The other models do not fit the sheath, only the original model. The Bear and Sons blade shape is just different enough that it doesn’t fit and the Generational bone handles are thinner than the standard handle so it doesn’t click in to lock. That’s OK, I am very happy with the one I have!

This is not a style of knife I care for much, but I have a few. I do have the Schrade Sharpfinger and the others are just from Frost via their Whitetail line. None of them are particularly fancy, though the Frost ones come in a variety of handle colors and are eye catching, but they all get the job done on piercing hide and slicing through meat so I can't complain!
@RJsKnives

As long as it gets the job done, right? They are nice and lightweight, not too big and I find it a good all around camp knife. Thanks for watching Jesse, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience!

I have two of these from the eighties, one has a leather snap sheath and one has a friction formed leather sheath similar to a Mora style sheath. The blades use a flat grind not like yours. The older Schrade Walden model 148 is has a five-inch thin blade with the same style blade shape. Case also makes a model very much the 148 and still does. It is Case model 323. My Schrade 148 is in no need of replacing. The sharp finger is good for caping out hides and the larger model 148 is much better for breaking down the carcass. 🙂

For the price of what vintage Old Timer and Uncle Henry Sharpfingers are going for, you might as well get a new Generational or Bear and Son and support a US made product. I just got the Bear and Son, and it feels every bit as good in the hand as my Dad's Old Timer from the 80's.

I tried to figure out a wat to leave you a picture. But no luck. I have an old made in the U.S.A. old timer sharp finger with the gut hook. My first hunting knife from way back. The leather sheath gave up the ghost years ago.this year i asked a friend that is a knife maker to build a kydex sheath for it. It's beautiful. Horizontal left hand drawn at 1 o'clock. I believe the means of attaching to the belt is called c clip. Slids on and off easy but stays put till you want it off. Kind of wish all my knifes had sheaths like this now. Lol.

That’s cool, David! I like my gut hook Old Timer. I was looking for a good hunting knife at that time and it served very well in its job. My sheath needs to be repaired. CB Tactical made a kydex sheath for my Sharpfinger, that is really cool. Kydex makes for a great sheath. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Watching these Sharpfinger videos of yours triggered my curiosity and wouldn't you know it, I ordered one (Generational series). I've always been a bit intrigued by them. They were the most common fixed blade EDC knives in my younger days and still catch a glimpse of one on occasion. I'm looking forward to putting it to use.

The Chinese version wins for a couple of reasons. The Bear and Son is more expensive and not a true Sharpfinger. The Chinese version is a true Sharpfinger design and if lost or broken is cheap enough to replace and readily available at Walmart. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching!

@@flebert3789 it responds well to stropping and holds a good edge. I have had good results once you get your edge on it. The factory edges are hit and miss like everyone else. It’s good for a working knife.
