Fred Astaire and Kay Thompson did not get along while making this film, and this song and dance number illustrates why. Here's Fred dancing his ass off, even spinning around on the ground, yet it's Kay Thompson you can't take your eyes off. She nails every scene she's in. Astaire was not use to his dance partners stealing focus, but Kay did, and Astaire didn't like it.

"She hated how Fred treated Audrey"???. Audrey loved Fred and he thought she was marvelous. She flew over from Europe to attend his AFI 1981 tribute. His daughter Ava traveled with him to Paris during filming of 'Funny Face' and she and Audrey became life-long friends. It would seem that Kay Thompson had some kind of an agenda.

And where did you “read” that? There’s nothing in the feed that ever suggested that. Either you are lying or hallucinating. Astaire is on record as having enjoyed working with Kay and vice-versa. Prove it or lose it.

@@nondescript2892Both disliked worked together. For one, Audrey was NOT a musical actress and felt she was forced into the part. Funny how she didn’t mind the paycheck for “My Fair Lady” later on. Astaire felt Audrey was not a trained dancer and wasn’t up to the part, and he was right. Audrey was a dramatic actress. For all of your whinging, you are coming off as a tool. Which you are.

In this film the one and only Fred Astaire is more like a guy in his 40's than 58. What other 58 year old male dancer could pull this off bouncing up and down off the floor while Kay sang 'Clapa Your Hands' ... None...because he was the only one still dancing. Amazing and true. (Gene Kelly hung up his dancing shoes at about 45 or 46...hardly danced much in his last MGM musical 'Le Girls' but went on to become a successful director). his last movie musical

This song always makes me laugh, because the music is a full-blown orchestra even though Fred Astaire is only holding a guitar (which he isn't even playing). Can you imagine being at that party 3:22 when he just starts kicking on the floor while she dances around him, all in dead silence?
