@@Epsicronics I think all of the Scrybes were good people in their own ways minus Po3. Grimora was a good person yes, but she(I think?) Didn't take into account the desires of the other scribes with her final decision, I agree with her but still, it was a bit of selfish selflessness to delete them all. Also Magnificus was up there with her for probably the most morally good(minus what he did to his apprentices, though arguably it helped them, the Goo became one of his beloved master's cards in the end and the lonely wizard survived the game's deletion cause he had been trained and overcame absolute nothingness... Not sure about the head though), he just wanted to live. But even as he's on the floor, his code being torn asunder as the files are being deleted, he was still trying to get to you so he could shake your hand. And even Leshy, the man that started it all for us, through all of the trials and torment he put us through in Act 1, still had a good person behind him. Hell, him giving us our deck from act one back and telling us it was good, congratulating us on beating one of his beasts and reminiscing on our ability to triumph. Even when the scale is deleted he just tells us it's fine, we don't need to keep score anyway, because he just wants to play against an equal. Him reaching out his hand to shake ours and telling us "Good game" before he's deleted hit me hard This game was amazing and I hope we get a sequel sometime later on down the line

the funny part about "deleting your files" is that the game doesnt really do it, it keeps in memory which file you have selected and if the card dies, it simply does nothing. you do get an achievement for deleting the file yourself, and the game will react to you deleting the file that died yourself also they cant legally delete your files, the game would be a malware if it did

Both these things are intrinsically associated with luck, and making the most out of what you have. And even then, it is one of the least luck-based games I have ever played of the genre. A friend of mine struggled with the card game part (Only in Act 1) so I helped her through it since I had already played it. I only failed once and even won THROUGH one of the failsafes that are supposed to prevent you from progressing too fast. So, yeah, it is very much skill based if compared to its genre brethren.

@@Epsicronics While rng will always be a factor in the game, a large part of the game is trying to minimise that RNG - a lot of players will use stuff like campfires and even sacrifices just to get rid of cards, because having a smaller deck is more consistent and easier to play around (hey, P03 was right on that front) That’s why most Skull Storm strats involve having only one 1 cost card, because they abuse the game logic that forces drawing one of them on turn 1, so with the right deck you instawin every time (with a really op 1 cost or a black goat to get a 3 cost on turn 1)

Hadn't seen Ouroboros yet, although he was a treat when I watched aforementioned friend play and got familiar with the first and second acts and then some of the third act. The Trapper got me in my second run due to a combo of forgetting what cards do and inexperience and he about got me in the third run were it not for me asking my friend for help on what to do. Leshy was a cakewalk, I just had to ask what the Moon yanked into orbit and under what conditions. Undying Squirrels were my favorite from my friend's gameplay. I was giggling a lot tonight over the evil combinations of sigils and health buffs I was conceiving, laughed at my own forgetting, and was ecstatic to see Goobert, get Magnificus's eye, and see him as Stunted Wolf again. It's hard at first, but once you start getting the op stuff it's hilarious. Trapper's whooping me in act two still lol.

The people freaking out about needing to sacrifice the talking cards (even though they always come back) are kind of funny to me. I get emotionally attached to the Companion Cube every time I play Portal but I still incinerate it, because I have to, and I feel sad about it every time, but thats just how the game is. @makodolphus7810

The funny thing is, that dilemma is probably part of the point here. Yeah, they're talking, "sentient" beings- beings that feel everything that happens to them no less, and when you get the option to sacrifice them for the first time, there's this moment of whether you're REALLY willing to sacrifice something that is for all intents and purposes *alive* (in the context of the game world, granted) in order to beat the game... And then it all resets, win or lose. You're hit with the reality that, *even in the context of the game world*, it's all just a game and resets back to square one after every run. TLDR; A choice being hard can be the point, it shouldn't be a turn-off if it has a reason to be there

Honestly though? I think the complaint at 1:14 is totally fair. Obviously the second half is a bit silly, but I definitely _almost_ dropped the game during the start of the second act. While I did find it enjoyable after a while, it's such a stark tonal shift and is NOT how the game is advertised. (Totally fair, because that would diminish the shock value, but it's still absent regardless.) Despite my eventual enjoyment, I'd still definitely consider it the game's lowest point for me personally. I wanted spooky YuGiOh, and right as it seemed like things were REALLY gonna pick up, they instead picked North-East and hecking ran with it. Still a great game and worth sticking with it throughout, but as someone who was quite attached to what Act 1 was building up, I can totally understand how the blindside that is Act 2 could totally turn someone away from the game, since the only way to go back to what made the game special is to slog through what you don't enjoy.

Yea i think Act 1 and the demo "sacrifices must be made" that act 1 was made off of, was by far the strongest part of the game. And i think it was completely wasted potential to move away from the more subtle horror aspects of "sacrifices must be made", where you play a card game with an isolated man after your plane crashes in exchange for food. For the ARG that the gave dev shoved into the game. Having a fully fleshed out game work with and continue off where the game jam game ended would've been so interesting.

If you look at the Dev page for literally a few minutes, you can see they made Pony Island, a game exactly like this one. And another game that was ALSO exactly like this one.
@kashino55archive94

@doubleaabattery7562 That's fair, although having now played through Pony Island, I feel like the tonal shift in Inscryption is kind of on another level. It feels like the entire game they've been building up completely comes crashing down and turns into this new thing that loses the charm of what came before. Now I definitely came around and honestly really enjoy the second act, but MAN did it lose me for a bit. Pony Island sets up its premise and its twist, and then just escalates from there, rather than suddenly experiencing a MAJOR shift. Haven't played through The Hex yet so we'll see how that compares, but even then, I don't particularly think it's fair to expect people to predict a twist based on a creator's other works rather than the work itself

Yeah, stage 2 felt more like a “Oh right we should probably connect the two acts we have into a coherent story” rather than something the devs really cared about making fun. It’s why people always adore Kaycee’s mod and want a version of it for Act 3, but never bring up Act 2 in the conversation.

Giving games a second chance should be way more normal than it actually is. I remember picking up Hollow Knight and getting 2-3 hours in before putting it down because it wasn't really clicking with me. 8 months later, I tried it again and became obsessed with it for a solid 4 months. Adding in my own review here, because I have a couple things to say about inscryption. It is a beautiful masterpiece for those with hyper or obsessive brains who like to figure out mystery. I love playing this game and the strategy I had to use made it feel like I was playing up against real people. Not to mention if you are advancing too quickly in the game the characters will baby rage and play cards that you really just can’t beat. It’s hilarious, it’s like playing against angry guards… Which is essentially what they are. Got through the whole game and I’m trying to get into Kaycee’s mod I have 16+ hours in the game. And tbh if you can’t play the game in the time I had ( I’m horrible at video and card games as well as math) then I don’t know what you are doing wrong. Maybe I was lucky? But I doubt that because this game kicked my ass many times as well. My strategy? Use every failure as a learning opportunity and you can become the Ultimate Carder (True fans of the story will understand that joke at the end) Oh! And one more thing- I played this game on my Nintendo switch, so the only files that were used/deleted (none were actually deleted) were Nintendo pictures and my switch friends. A lot less loss playing Incryption that way

The game actually doesn't delete the file if you lose the hostage file card... Its legally not allowed. It does however create a word doc saying you should delete it yourself to be a fair sport in the file location, so really its not a criticism but a showcase of the games code.
