I had a starling once, just as brainy as the corvids 😊 one night I kept hearing strange noises, I found her in the kitchen picking up fish tank gravel and dropping them onto various surfaces to hear the sound effects, another day I came back and found a 3 inch piece of cucumber completely hollow, just the green skin remained. She wouldn’t go outside and got really scared when she accidentally flew out. When I retrieved her she clung to me for ages.

Thanks for watching and for your kind comment! Yes, Peach keeps amazing us with his intelligence and playfulness. He has learned to imitate our cat and us coughing! :-) He has incredibly rich vocabulary of his own. He is talking to us steady but in his own language. When he is outside in his aviary, he always demands at least one flock member to be at his sight at all times - either one of us or our dog Kassie! Then he is content. As soon as he loses us from sight, he starts cawing!

When I was 6-10 our summer cabin would always be visited by ducklings and their mother If we weren't outside they would knock on the door to let us know they were hungry Once we were gone to a bigger city and when we returned the ducklings were circling around our cabin trying to find us. Once their mother trusted us and left for business randomly and we had to watch her ducklings on the yard till she returned.

I had a crow in Okuma, Okinawa for 12 years. We rescued him when he was injured and his wing was broken in a typhoon. He lived in a large aviary built up against our house but came into the house daily. His name was MomoTaro (little peach boy from Japanese folklore). Taro for short was quite a character. Got into things all the time. He used to drive my mother crazy getting into her cooking utensil drawer and would pull the items out and bang them on the kitchen counter. He used to turn the spigot on the sink and take showers under the running water. It was my job to clean up the mess he made in the kitchen. Mum didn't complain really, she liked him too.
@chv72
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for telling us the interesting story about Taro! Sounds like you had a very nice arrangement for the bird! That's exactly what we are hoping to build for our birds when we move to the country. We want to build them a huge aviary connected to the house, so that they can go in and out as they please. So, Taro was an adult bird when you rescued him?
@DF-gu5nn
5 жыл бұрын
@@chv72 Yes, he was an adult. I found him when I went outside to open the shutters on the house after the typhoon. He was underneath some Japanese pine trees where other crows were pecking at him and pulling his feathers. What caught my attention was all the ruckus from the cawing of the other birds. I shooed them away and was able to use a bath towel to toss over him and pick him up. Our gardener splinted his wing after he checked him over and worked on a couple of wounds on his head and back. The wing healed enough to basically fold it back with a bit of a droop so the distal end of the wing tips dragged the ground. He was able to hop up on the counter from the floor with a little fluttering kind of movement but he was never able to get air born again. So, my father built him an aviary against the leeward 40 foot wall of the house with an overhang for shade and we put driftwood branches from the beach plus other items in the aviary so Taro could climb up to the highest spot and be the "guard crow". Any time the weather was bad, Taro came into the house and we had a perch for him with a droppings cloth slung under it. I used to bring him in every day when I came home from school. He would play chase with the dog around the coffee table and hop around on the furniture, picked up items and rearranged Mum's knickknacks on the window sills. He LOVED lemon lime soda and apple cider so my Mum used to keep a small dish that the chopsticks rested on for Taro to have a few sips of his favorite beverages. He often was present at the dinner table so he just took off our plates whatever he wanted.
