In this video, I’d like to share with you how to wrap a bottle using Furoshiki.
Furoshiki is a square piece of cloth that was traditionally used in Japan to wrap and carry objects of all shapes and sizes. The most common Furoshiki are with sides of 45 cm and 68-72 cm, although there are no standardized sizes. You may use any square piece of fabric.
This ancient Japanese tradition inspiring us today to go back to the roots. So much thoughtfulness and care are taken not only to a gift and the person you are giving it. But also to the environment, as wrapping with fabric or cloth is an amazing eco-friendly alternative we can adopt today. It’s so much better than gift bags, paper, not to speak of tape or plastic! A person you give a present can then use it again.
Eco tip: you can find amazing scarves or handkerchiefs in thrift shops. In this video you can see 100% silk shawl I bought in a thrift shop. Gifts wrapped in silk look so elegant and refined!
You’ll need:
1. A square piece of cloth. (My silk scarf is 90x90 cm.)
2. A bottle of wine or any other drink you wish to present.
The instruction:
1. Place the bottle in the center of the square cloth;
2. Take the corners diagonally, tie them;
3. Wrap the remaining corners around the bottle and tie;
4. Twist the ends of the top knot and tie one more knot on top. Thus you’ll make a handle for the bottle wrap.
