Today I’m going to share with you another summer Furoshiki. This time we’re going to wrap a sunny melon in a silk Furoshiki!
What is Furoshiki?
Furoshiki is a square piece of cloth that was traditionally used in Japan to wrap and carry objects of all shapes and sizes. The most common Furoshiki are with sides of 45 cm and 68-72 cm, although there are no standardized sizes. You may use any square piece of fabric. In this video I use 70x70 cm silk scarf.
This ancient Japanese tradition inspiring us today to go back to the roots. So much thoughtfulness and care are taken not only to a gift and the person you are giving it. But also to the environment, as wrapping with fabric or cloth is an amazing eco-friendly alternative we can adopt today. It’s so much better than gift bags, paper, not to speak of tape or plastic! A person you give a present can then use it again.
It’s a great idea for a small present when you go on a visit. Food is a great idea already, but if it is wrapped in silk Furoshiki this makes it a gorgeous present!
So here are the steps:
1. Place the melon in the center of the square cloth;
2. Tie the corners;
3. Thread one knot into another
Easy, isn’t it?
