I was an anti fur for a long time, never got too far or vocal about it but always thought the worst about the community. then one day I discovered a friend I had recently met was a furry, and it made me think about why Ive been hating it so much. I was young, and it was a “trend” to hate furrys. They where kind of the butt of the joke for memes/vines at the time and I just kinda got swept in with the crowd for awhile. After it died down I still had a similar opinion on it even though I never expressed it bc all I saw was the negative stuff. Then after awhile I ended up meeting a friend that was a furry and that finally prompted me to look into the topic and figure out what a furry really was, that’s when I realized it wasn’t some s3x thing or an identity thing (even if that is the case in occasional circumstance) and just a hobby. Most anti furs are just misinformed, like I was for awhile. Sorry, this got long 😅

I've been with the fandom since almost the beginning. I think it was 1988 or 1989 that I first discovered it. It helped me in a way no one else could. I was sheltered, unused to being around people unlike myself, and very deeply closeted. Furry was the community that helped me break out of my shyness and isolation. I'm in my 50's, now, and can honestly say I doubt I would have made it this far without my fellow furs. You did some good with your video, today; thank you!

@@condensednuts that would be very interresting to see. Tho. when fursuiting you need to be very carefull. Here are a few points you need to be caucious of: 1: Fursuits, most of the times, are HEAVY! most of them end up adding 50-100 pounds to your overall weight. so you need a lot of endurance to make it through the day. 2: Wearing a fursuit is like laying under 10 cotton blankets. it gets hot under there. Bring a lot of water with you. and possibly one of theese little hand fan things. 3: Fursuits have a limited FOV (kinda like wearing the vision pro but even worse) so better have someone else nearby to help you get where you want to go. 4: it can be hard getting in and out of a fursuit. so have someone help you^^ 5: the suit may also limit your movement so again, make sure you have someone with you to help you out. But, it is fair to say that all of this trouble is definitely worth it and makes an experience like this a lot more fun so I would definitely recommend trying it out!

@@condensednuts i mean it's reporting like this that needs to be highlighted. go in with an unbiased eye, and let the people speak for themselves. it's when people go in with a certain mindset or spin, that's when the drama happens. If your reporting is good enough, then you can just let the video speak for itself, show don't tell as they say. tired of new casters having to make everything into a huge song and dance, just to keep people's attention. it's sort of why i hate reality tv shows where they show the story of people Auditioning, just show the act, if they make it through THEN tell us the story. don't make it a pity party. as i was saying showing reality is the best reporting, it's why i like behind the scenes of movies and music videos, shows the process. Sure the finished product is nice, but it's the process that makes it better, because then you can rewatch them and pick up on the little things you missed before.

Among all the 'weird' fandoms, furry are certainly among the most likeable. Whenever I interact with furries, its a very positive and welcoming vibe, there is so much creativity in that space, so many cool ideas, talented artists, gifted makers and sweet storytellers. Its probably the one of the most wholesome fandoms out there. That they are very inclusive of lgbtq+, bodily impaired and neuro diverse people helps a lot to give this positive vibe. hello, talking from the weird side of the fandom here honestly, like in every group, there's a really vocal minority of awful people in the fandom who give us a really bad name and there's no abundance of sexual content, I draw some myself but there's so much more than that. but there's something nice about even that part of the fandom, people are really open about stuff that is traditionally in the west really personal, and the openness doesn't end in sexual stuff, you get to make really strong connections with amazing people, making friendships that are ocean deep, helping each other with stuff I would have a hard time talking to a therapist about and more. my time in the fandom really really helped me with crippling social anxiety and destructive self image, when my classmates would bully me for simply being quiet and keeping for myself at the time. to learn to love myself despite how insecure I am, and to grow and improve as a person as I mature up. yeah not everyone is great in there, but when I dipped my toes in other fandoms, there have been grooming attempts to no end. school, work and where not, there's always a few people who are awful, it's just a part of living life as a social creature. to anyone who wonders about the fandom from the outside, yes, you'll find lots of sexual content, and some of the people and groups in it are a problem but beyond that muck that surfaces to the top of this huge lake, there's tons of talent, passion, love and some of the most amazing people I've ever met

At 60 years old I am currently making my first furry partial suit, hopefully head, tail, paws, feet, leg and arm sleeves.. I am part of the lgbtqzxyjfsp+-x or whatever they call it these days, I dont really partake in the activism I am just a male to female transsexual going about my life my way. I started down this rabbit hole because i am volunteering for Glasgow pride this year and thought it would be fun for the kids attending to make a costume and after much thinking decided on a fursuit. Then I found out about the furry fandom, not really much happening here in Scottyland on that front yet.. But I soon discovered the hate shown to some furry peeps, and of course some of the dark underbelly of the genre! But wherever you get large numbers of humans with a common 'thing' you get the same proportion of sick and twisted individuals as you find in the general population. Its sad that there are people that use the minority or bad to tar the good majority, I have obviously come across the mentality in other walks of life including the hate for being trans. But there are many people like yourself that can see that we are all individuals and a few bad apples does not mean the whole orchard is rotten. For me, its a fun way to be something else, and to bring a bit of joy into others lives, its nothing sinister, its just a way to cast off inhibitions and have a fun time, hopefully also a way to raise some funds for local charities in these hard times, I fail to grasp why that should paint a target on me for hateful people to shoot at. Much kudos to you for not only making a really great video on the subject, but highlighting and debunking the hateful aspect in a fun and entertaining way.

I don't consider myself a furry, but not only are some of my best friends are furries (they are such awesome people) I've grown to love the art and creativity of the fandom. They ve opened my mind, and I'm much less judgemental. I used to think worse of the fandom for the longest time. I love playing DnD and now I love to play anthro races and monstrous races rather than humans. So much fun!

I was a furry a few years back. I say I left for the cringe aspects but in reality I was bullied out of it from my peers. I loved having a persona that others saw me as since I wasn’t very confident and same goes for now. I may rejoin in the future but for now imma stay out of it. You furries are cool tho as a whole

Thank God someone finally gave us a chance. I get harrased for it daily. When I ever say I am a furry to a group, usually it ends with being harrased until anything happens to make them stop. So I give my respect to you for clearing a lot of conspiracys and overall helping the entire community and fandom.

Thank you for treating the fandom and its people with respect. You took the time to educate yourself about a topic that most people would make snap judgements about based on rumours, speculation, and hate. We mind our own business and keep to ourselves, but we also welcome anybody who does not bring hate with them. You asked, "what would you say to the haters?" Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and we don't need everyone to like us. We keep to ourselves. I encourage anyone who goes out of their way to actively disrespect or spread hate towards us, despite us not affecting or having any bearing on their lives, to look at themselves and evaluate who they are as people. Furries won't end society as we know it but hate very likely will.

Thanks for being so neutral and open-minded in this video. I also gotta put my 2 cents in here; even if furries can be “weird sexual deviants,” they do it in their own spaces and websites (take furaffinity and e612 for example.) So many people are falling under the anti-sex (work) mindset to the point where they think people who like feet and armpits are on the same level as pedophiles and abusers simply because it’s weird. There are people who force that stuff into SFW spaces, but it’s extremely frowned upon with most furries.

Back in 2020, I found the community and I was curious about it, instead of assuming I spent about a year researching via KZitem livestreamers, the conclusion I came to is "furrys are people that have interest in anthropomorphic animals with human characteristics or traits and may identify themselves as such, they may also cosplay as their own character(s) with such traits" although there are the dark sides of it, that dark side is everywhere in this world

This is what I wish and strive to become: an unbiased, but respectful researcher and interviewer. There's something about them that can learn so many experiences that allow perspective of both; within the trend or outside the lines. Just seeing this video not only gives me inspiration, but plentiful hope for the world. That, and the furry community. Some people just never tend to respect change, whether it's a "joke" or not.

Thank you! You've presented this perfectly in your own way, including the satirical "hater" cameraman character. It both mocks the hate and also, in a way, keeps the video serious on the topic of furries being a widely misunderstood community. Especially with the "beat up" at the end, which is crude but gets the point across, in my opinion. Better than a sweet-sweet happy ending where he would change for the better. Great work! As a furry, you're doing us a good service this way. Keep it up ^^

people always wonder why there's a big overlap between the furry fandom, the TTRPG one(s), and the lgbt+ population a better reading key would be why a setup where there's no real limitation to how you can express and present your individual self would attract the latter group

The furry fandom has a few kids who ruin recess for everyone time in and time out, but overall it's a very fun experience. I've found it helps me to do things when I pretend i'm someone else other than me, which i've been doing since i've been in pre-school. It's one big game of pretend at times, and man is it a fun one. Not every day can you be a dragon, so why not today?

The last bit with the camera man hurting him somewhat potrays what the furry community experience on a basis, that its the haters that is actually making the conflicts worse. We just want to chill, but they genually think it is good to hurt others just because they have an interest, an INTREST! It is not a cult or religious belief, it is litteraly the same thing as people playing video games, they do it because they enjoy it. That is all there is.

Hating furries just for being furries is the same as hating carpenters for being carpenters, or artists for being artists. So yeah, thanks for making this and for having that courage to explore. And A-fucking-men to the one who said the barking at furries was cringe!

Great video! Not only is your video on a fandom that gets a lot of misunderstanding really well put together, with the camera work, the questions you asked the members of the fandom, and the dichotomy between you and the cameraman, it was meant to be a journey of self discovery with something you didn't know much about, and I feel like all videos should be that. Good job! You just earned yourself a new subscriber!

Absolutely loved the ending about acceptance, thanks for keeping such an open mind on people you didn't understand prior. To me being a furry is about being able to express myself and be who I want, this is always why I tell everyone to love and accept regardless of beliefs/who someone is, and that "Being kind and generous does not cost a thing."
