Sweet! Yeah it's fun to find new ways to use the leftovers. I'll be doing a potmelt soon too which is another great scrap use.

I definitely enjoy seeing more ideas around how to use up scrap. Any ideas on using the rolled edges we all seem to end up with.

Thank you. Yes, you could incorporate them on opposing edges of a square or rectangular project, leaving the middle which creates a unique channel if that makes sense. I'll make a video in the future to show! Thanks for the idea.

Could you put India Ink on clear, let it dry then cap with more clear and fuse it without losing the color of the India Ink?

What would the firing schedule be for glass using a porcelain kiln?
@moltenworksglassstudio
3 жыл бұрын
The firings should still be the same. Do you have a programmable controller on your porcelain kiln? If its just dials, it can be hard to get the right speed and temperature without watching the whole process. Start with firing small jewelry size pieces as the program doesn't need to be as slow. Let me know if you want me to post a schedule for you.

Can you fuse ceramic glaze with glass?
@moltenworksglassstudio

Not that I know of. Glass has a specific compatibility and the only other material I use is glass enamels, though not all of them are food safe.

Hi, I have a question. I saw a video from Applied Science about making glass and he said that a newly forming glass (a melting mixture of base constituents, e.g., alkali carbonates, lime, silica, boric acid, alumina, etc.) will stick to just about every surface except platinum and that it can corrode and/or dissolve effectively all refractory materials to some degree or another. Is this also true of already-formed glass that is being re-melted in the fusing process? Thanks.

Great question! With the glass I use, as long as there is a barrier from the kiln shelf or mold, the glass won't stick. I use something called bullseye thin fire paper and Boron Spray for molds.
