Future Library challenges our concept of time - and library. In 2014 one thousand trees were planted outside of Oslo. Each year, an author is invited to write a text. Margaret Atwood and Karl Ove Knausgaard are two of them. After 100 years, the trees will be felled to make paper on which to print these texts. Until then, no one may read them. Anne Beate Hovind is the curator of the world renowned Future Library in Oslo, a public artwork by Scottish artist Katie Paterson.
Our Future - a Day on Long-Term Perspectives
On November 11, 2023, the Nordic Museum in Stockholm and the Institute for Futures Studies organised a day of talks and discussions on topics such as “who owns the future”, “futures of the past”, and “what our thoughts about the future reveals about the present”.
