The fact that Madonna has been relevant for literally decades. And it's true she has absolutely changed the game for women. Susan Sarandon has been quoted saying you can split the pop industry into ways before Madonna and after Madonna. Her classic period which is 1983 - 2006 this contains her greatest albums, tours and videos this is the reason why she is the greatest of all time.

True Madonna among others has lead pop music at it climax, and now it s the décline ,not of hers and the stupidity to ask about this weird concept of relevance in art( your work as an artist is to make art not relevance),the décline is what new technologie devices brought, sales of album is obsolète,the shows too ,coz people are living virtual lives more and more everyday, behind social média, they crowned a kim .k as a superstar known for,, being known, while to be a star requires talent and loads of working, millenians dont get that part and want fame thus to be rich and loved, if the gouvernement dont explain the brainwashing we're in thru,we will live in Ignorance and consumption $$ and that leads to suffring,dépression and so.music cannot save us coz the focus of the brain lacks patience today ,the songs will be change into jingles of few seconds, that all we can bear.

TBH when most people talk about "Pop dying" they seem to just think about what's "on the charts", whereas if you actually go and seek out Pop that's maybe a little less "mainstream" you'll find that the genre "Pop" is far from dying. Just look at 2019: Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX, Tropical Fuck Storm, Kero Kero Bonito, Anamanaguchi, 100 Gecs, Caroline Polatchek and many many others dropped amazing projects and continue to deliver incredible music. But because they're not "mainstream" people immediately claim "Pop is dying"

@@jeremiahhg1923 Maybe. Taylor will taking a break after her re-recordings, but i think with Taylor's comeback for TS8 it will be like Reputation. Even you dont like her there will be millions of fans to buy her album, unlike Katy on the otherhand even she makes good songs like NRO and HIH, it wont make alot of impact since she flopped so hard, but i do believe that it's just her recovering phase after her hard flopped Witness, and sooner or later she will dominate again. Here's the difference: Taylor can switch genres, unlike Katy, she needs to stay pop. Still remember the GLOBAL SUCCESS OF 1989? That's when everyone know that she can do any genre she wants. Truth is that with social media and new ways of listening to music (Spotify) and enjoying a song/album/artist, people now get bored really easily. In the same way we just like a post on Instagram and we pass on to the next one we listen to a song on Spotify, and if we don’t like it in the first 10 seconds we skip it to the next one, and so on. Artists just acknowledged it and make more songs that resemble the general public taste in that moment. Billie Eilish (I’m just taking her as an example because of her popularity in this period) is just the result of years of transformations in the music industry, and she is setting new standards because people like her original style, for now. I don’t know how much she can last in terms of popularity, judging from precedent cases it seems like she is already in the peak of her career, but I may be wrong. The industry just really needs something new, something fresh that we’re all searching for and that seems like is not possible to achieve anymore.

The music industry drastically changed when Napster, Limewire, really became popular, CDs disappeared, streaming singles became a thing and MTV/VH1/BET stopped playing videos in favor of reality TV. I used to work at a record store in the 90s and it was a thing to spend hours perusing new music and actually touching the vinyl or CD. Artists like Madonna, Mariah, Britney, Beyonce, Janet Jackson are legendary and memorable because they got their start in that earlier album oriented era. We connected to them in a different way. They're the ones who can do residencies in Vegas and make $$$$. Whether the new generation can/will do that successfully remains to be seen. It'll be interesting to witness.

Pop music is dying cause of all the trash new artists. I’m not gonna lie, there’s a lot of great ones that aren’t well known, but I keep seeing a pattern with ones that get popular. 1 They release a song that goes semi-viral or gains them traction. Usually the song is some kind of boring edm/will I am rip off. 2. They release like 10 remixes of that song. 3. Once they have milked that song to the point people don’t care anymore, they begin to hype up their new album. 4. They spend months doing pr and people begin turning their heads. Then it comes out and...oh. It’s boring af. All the songs sound the same and the lyrics are shit. 5. Everyone continues to slowly drop them. Then another artist comes in to repeat the pattern. This is what I see every year. I think everyone’s just getting tired of the same formula being used over and over for new artists. The constant flops that happen are leading people to think pop music has no creativity and is worthless, thus they leave.

He was throwing out emojis and doing digital music downloads years before most people even knew what they were. He had a sold out Vegas residency and (IMO) the best Super Bowl Halftime show in history....not to mention that iconic George Harrison tribute performance on the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He played over 10 instruments, wrote, composed, and produced ALL of his music and had the world just accept that he had changed his name from Prince to O(+>. Plus, he left enough music behind to release an album every year for the next 100 years. Nowadays people who can’t even sing make it big off of one song and they’re everywhere. Imo none of the current pop stars will become legends. Camila has great potential, she comes up with catchy melodies and she has a unique voice but so far her recent music releases didn’t appeal too much. It feels like they rushed the process just so they could make her stay relevant. Always succeeding with collabs doesn’t make her look good as a stand alone artist too. She needs a good producer to help her structure her songs better and make an album that makes her shine. Plus, her team needs to focus on her music not always on the publicity because now she’s more famous for her relatable quirky personality and “Shawmila” than her actual talent which should be what she’s known for in the first place.

Honestly, the days of superstars and cultural defining smash mega hits are gone due to the digital climate we live in now. None of these modern pop stars give me spark. The last pop star that did that was Gaga with her powerful debut. There hasn't been a moment remotely close to that since. It seems like artists today are more comfortable staying in their respective lanes making music for their fan base as opposed for the world. As a matter of fact the entire entertainment industry as a whole is at a plateau right now because the same issue is going on in the film industry. There's a severe scarcity of unique storytelling because it's being plagued by recycled bottom tier quality gunk. Even movie stars aren't a thing anymore. The entertainment industry is in dire need of a renaissance. Unfortunately, I don't see anything changing until at least the mid/late 2020's.

music nowadays resembles media in general: a popular meme will last maybe a month, and then the people move on. with music, artists are straying from albums and making more singles, which gives people short-term satisfaction. so, because artists are churning out single after single after single, creativity wears down. So now music is more base-level

High Hope's for lady gaga's sixth album. She may never be as popular as she was in 2008-2011 but she has a legacy and a big fan base still. Plus shes so multi talented and reinvents herself. She hasn't disappointed me yet.

Funny how people miss out on Alessia cara, Lana del Ray, Khalid and Shawn mendes. Alessia sounds and looks promising🗣

I'm gonna say in mainstream we got 3 types od artists: - artists who will succeed by releasing anything, ex. Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, Beyonce, Drake - artists who need to be careful what they gonna release cause they can flop anytime, ex. Liam Payne, Camila Cabello, Meghan Trainor, any upcoming artist - artists with own fanbase, they will release anything and fandom will like it, they won't be too popular, ex. Melanie Martinez, Lorde By time: - quality>quantity, don't expect too many albums - Lorde, rock/metal bands, Adele - quantity>quality, like releasing project with 20+ tracks, releasing albums/mixtapes as often as possible - basically rappers And I feel recently mainstream pop artist release music more rare than before. 2005-2011 Rihanna had a new album every year. I still love her hits ♥️. Other artists did the same thing, or promoted the singles. But now Rih doesn't seem interested, Britney has her own issues. Katy Perry flopped, Ariana had a break but SWT wasn't that good, Selena's album was delayed, JB, Nicki, are other examples. And upcoming pop artists struggle with replacing artists who hasn't release anything. I also feel that teenagers in 2008-2015, if they were teenagers in 2017-2020 they would listen to K-pop boybands. If 2017-2020 teens were teens in 2008-2015 they would be Beliebers and Directioners.

I used to like Camila but her label kept shoving her down our throats and I got tired🤷🏾♀️I don’t see her lasting in the new decade unless she’s doing a collab. Winning artist of the year and video of the year at the 2018 vmas didn’t help either since it was too early in her career and she hadn’t done anything new or interesting
