As a Norwegian with a career of several decades of speaking & writing (reading and listening too, for that matter) professionally behind me, I absolutely agree.

Thank you for teaching in English. As I am a beginner I always misunderstand what norwegain people say. And if I understand everything I´ll never want to go norwegain language school😅😅.😊😊❤

Just a quick note to describe how I use your videos. I'm probably A2 level with good reading comprehension but difficult listening comprehension due to hearing loss. So reading is my primary activity. I watched this video today, and jotted down notes on the two uses of "skal" and "vil". Then I turned to the current novel I'm reading. Both words turned up many times in the couple of chapters I read. I concentrated on skal and vil, and tried to determine from my notes exactly which use applied. Within a short time, I was no longer referring to my notes and could readily see the use of each word. I do this with nearly all your videos. Watch it, jot down some short notes, then go to my daily reading (usually about 3000 words) and concentrate on what I read or heard in that particular video. It's been a very effective way for me to solidly learn the material and advance my reading comprehension. Your very clear and concise explanations are immensely helpful. Despite the military destroying my hearing, I usually understand more of your spoken Norwegian than any of the other dozen youtube channels I subscribe to. Tusen takk, Ola.

You explained this really well, it's quite similar to "will" and "shall" in English but also slightly different

Jeg synes ellers det er litt synd at flagget i "forsidebildet" har feil proporsjoner. De hvite feltene eller stripene er alt for smale.

Instead of saying "har lyst til" ("has a desire"), one might as well say "ønsker" (wishes"), which is less complicated.
@olanorwegian4052

Yes, true. "Ønsker" is just a little more formal than "har lyst til" usually.

can we use 'må' in 'barna skal vaere i seng klokka 9' instead of 'skal'? are they synonyms?
@olanorwegian4052
10 күн бұрын
Yeah, you could say they are pretty close. Barna skal være i seng klokka 9 = The children shall be in bed at 9 Barna må være i seng klokka 9 = The children must be in bed at 9

Ordet staves "hjelpsom". Men det har ikke helt det samme meningsinnhold som det engelske "helpful". I denne sammenhengen er nok uttrykket "til hjelp" mer korrekt. "Hjelpsom" brukes helst om en person som er villig og klar til å hjelpe, eller gir/har gitt god hjelp. Eventuelt "hjelpsomt" som et adverb tilknyttet verbet/handlingen. "Hun opptrådte hjelpsomt".
