"Lâl is your colour,
Lâl is your homeland
Lâl is your passion
Lâl is your destiny
And your path
Lâl is your colour, which complements and resembles you
Lâl is your homeland, which flees from you, and collects you
Deep down in my soul, I wait for you and I pray
Shirt of fire, you have kindled my life"

"Many years ago, when I was on tour in France with my group Gitans, a young girl came to pay us a visit. We were all very moved by the purity of her voice. She came from a Turkish family living in France and was just beginning to sing on stage. In 2000, I invited her to take part in the recording of two songs for the album “Un ciel de cuivre”. Instead of trying to impress or astonish, she was singing in such a simple manner -like a bird on a branch, singing to the sky.
Since then she has come a long way, she is now a professional singer. It was important for me to invite her to take part in this recording: with her two cultures, she forms a bridge between France and Turkey. Here Gülay Hacer Toruk sings a poem in both French and Turkish. Many of us have a dual inheritance, that means, every day we try to maintain a fragile harmony between our two hearts".
