In this video, we'll review some of the many variations students can practice using the G Major Scale. In Suzuki Book 1, the G Major Scale is introduced towards the end after learning tunes in A Major and D Major. Then, Etude and the three Minuets are all played in G Major. • Suzuki Book 1: Overvie... (More info on Book 1 structure)
Compared to A Major and D Major, the G Major scale is learned across two octaves. This means that (1) we cover all four strings, and (2) we need to use a low second finger on the A and E strings.
Scale practice starts with simple patterns to warm up our intonation and beautiful sound. Next, we use slurs to practice bow division. Finally, we use bowing and rhythmic variations to prepare for pieces we are working on.
If the student is practicing 30min per day, they can spend 5-10min on scales each day.
