This week there's a new release of a limited-edition Casio G-Shock GW6900 watch which is a NASA tribute watch using the older module 3179 (with the older style non-LED backlight). If you missed Casio's "Contest" to order this watch (followed by waiting to see if your order was accepted), then please note that the contest or "lottery" to order this watch has ended. You can now place an order for this watch just like any other, normal order (while supplies last). Just go to the website, click on "Buy Now" and follow the rest of the steps. This is apparently open to U.S. customers only. Meanwhile, some folks are already offering this watch for inflated prices on eBay. Three years ago (in the middle of the year 2021) Casio updated the module for its Tough Solar and Multiband 6 G-shock "Squares". The GW-M5610 became the GW-M5610U. The update added certain features like quick access to five "World Time" cities instead of one. Also, the watch could display the date and month in the MM/DD format or the DD/MM format on the home screen. And, in a move which disappointed some collectors, Casio replaced the electroluminescent backlight with an LED backlight (which will probably be more durable after years of use, although some folks don't think it looks as nice when the watch is new).
Since 2021, I've wondered if Casio would do a similar update to the module of the GW6900. Only a few weeks ago, the newer GW6900 module was introduced with a special 30th Anniversary "Love the Sea and the Earth" version of the GW6900. Please note, however, that this new GW6900 NASA24-1 watch does NOT use the updated module. This NASA watch still has Multband 6, Tough Solar and an electroluminescent backlight.
