@@brandonaldaymachuse6669I’m always genuinely curious about this sort of perspective! I’m very aware who you are taking a dig at. My question to you is this: do you believe her when she said that she was so off mentally she felt she would hurt herself going forward? Or, do you feel even if that was true, she still should’ve pushed forward?

Lots of people ragged on Gabby and said she didn’t deserve Rio but here’s some food for thought: 1. She came 3rd in All Around during Quals and was only axed from Final due to 2-per country rule. The same rule that cost Jordyn Wieber her 2012 spot in the AA final. There was outrage when it happened to Jordyn, not so much for Gabby. 2. If Gabby did advance to final, her Qual score was higher than Raisman’s score in final. So Gabby could have won Silver in AA if she just reproduced what she did in Quals. 3. Sure she balked during the UB final but she still made a single final, same as Aly. And the routine Gabby did on UB during TF would have been enough for bronze in the EF, so she had it in her to win a medal at that final. It just wasn’t her night. 4. While she only did UB during TF, she was certainly a very very secure back up had some shit gone down with the 3 who went up on all other pieces. She literally could put up a bigger number than most of the Russian team on all pieces. That’s the type of team member you need at the Games. Overall I think US fans soured on Gabby cos she wasn’t willing to play the game y’all wanted. But she fucking deserved Rio.

@@amethyst.panther How did she 'paved the way for other girls?" Were there no other black female gymnasts before her? What about Dianne Durham, Betty Okino, Dominique Dawes and others? This RUBBISH idea that Gabby 'walked so Simone could run' is just that, RUBBISH. The only reason Simone did not make the 2012 team to London was because she was not yet 16 if she were only God alone knows what would have been the outcome. Gabby was a fantastic gymnast and her accomplishments are things to applaud and forever appreciate but don't get on here talking like she is SOLELY responsible for the advancement of other black gymnasts in the sport . She and all those who have gone before as well as Simone have inspired many thus far and will continue to.

Gabby's attitude changed. I've only seen one other gymnast's attitude change and that was Yelena Mukhina. She beginned to hate gymnastics over time.......and boy did it show! I find I can't enjoy a gymnast who's not enthused about what she's doing because it makes me wonder if they truly like what they are doing. I wonder if Gabby's decision to fire her old coach, who helped her get the gold medal, proved to be a fatal mistake on her part?
@Allhoney33

@AshTheOne AshTheOne Just remember, I said "attitude". I said nothing about smiling. Svetlana Boguinskaya never smiled but she was passionate about what she was doing and I could tell. Thus, I enjoyed her competitions, while everyone else thought she was a bytch because she didn't smile. I observe a person's demeanor. Someone's demeanor says a lot about how they're feeling. As with the case of Yelena Mukhina and Gabby Douglas.
@Allhoney33
4 жыл бұрын
@AshTheOne Well since it's my perception, as you pointed out, then why are you so bothered? Now that's the interesting part. You know it's my perception, yet you're triggered? I mean you came crawling to me, to cuss and cry about my perception. Not to mention your gross misinterpretation of my comment. I suppose your obvious attempt at projection or misplaced anger, is partly due to your poor cognitive processing skills. Hence, your attempt at dragging me, only to end up dragging yourself. Your behavior is elementary at best and I suggest you advance both cognitively and behaviorally because you're gonna have serious problems in life if you get this emotionally distraught over someone else's perception.

I wonder if the abuse from Nassar had something to do with her change in attitude. Also after going through one Olympic cycle I’m sure she’s more than aware of how demanding and difficult the process is so maybe she’s tryna be more focused in order to impress the team selection committee. Especially with the amount of depth the US has. Simone was the only guaranteed spot for this team. Everyone else had something to prove.
@nicolecooper1569

I can imagine she put a lot of pressure on herself in this quad compared to 2011-2012 Gabby where she was less aware of her potential.
@Allhoney33
4 жыл бұрын
@@nicolecooper1569 I certainly wouldn't rule out the Nassar abuse. The travesty he committed is beyond horrid. He should have been given the death sentence! I'd read that Gabby was the breadwinner for her entire family. I remember thinking.....good grief, that's an insane and ridiculous responsibility for such a young woman. So I was wondering if she got burned out and didn't have any passion or heart for gymnastics anymore. Perhaps was being pressured to stay in and push, push, push by family so she could keep making coins. Whatever the cause, it really had a profound effect on her and changed her attitude. To everyone's surprise, Gabby finished 7th at the 2016 Olympic trials, which would have eliminated her from going to the Rio Olympics. However, Marta Karolyi choose her and Madison over the higher qualified gymnasts because she felt Gabby and Madison could help the team win the team gold since uneven bars is a weak spot for the Americans and those two were stronger on uneven bars. I actually wondered if Gabby underperformed at the trials on purpose. Like did she even want to go to the Olympics? People would be surprised at how a person can hate something they once loved. The one other gymnast who's demeanor changed the same way was Yelena Mukhina. She said she went from loving gymnastics to hating it because her coach, Mikhail Klimenko, treated her like a robot and kept pushing and pushing her to do harder and harder routines so she could keep winning gold. It ultimately led to tragedy in her case because during practice she snapped her neck, rendering her a quadriplegic. She said after she snapped her neck, her first thought was......well, at least I don't have to go to the Olympics........ that speaks volumes and breaks my heart.
