I'm a psychologist and I can relate to all that he says , both personally and professionally. He is a powerhouse of wisdom. So much clarity and such amazing information, imparted so clearly and simple. His humility shows when he says you don't have to buy my book if you don't want to. You can borrow it from a library. This is so contrasting to the tons of self help/ life coaches who arrogantly tell you to buy their books and make tall claims. This man is a gift to humanity. God bless him and his work. Thank you for making such interviews freely available on KZitem.

✨So beautiful! This gives me hope that my mother could still decide to grow. She’s in her 70’s now and I gifted her one of Gabor’s books recently as I saw she had a list of his books written on her counter. Apparently my cousin’s gf recommended them to her. I haven’t met her yet but I knew she was some kind of gift… if she planted the seed with the book recommendations and I watered it with the book… I hope it’s enough for that seed to grow 💖 Thank you for continuing to grow and giving hope and inspiration to others.

Dr Gabor Mate is an inspiration and I resonate with him whenever he speaks. I had Breast Cancer back in 2019 and it was a total shock as I was 31. Honestly, it is one of the best things that happened to me as I became sober from alcohol and changed my life. It was traumatic too. I quelled a lot of my anger and suppressed trauma for years. I had a very traumatic childhood and still working through this trauma now. I have changed a lot as a person as a result of the cancer. My mother passed away from cancer and we had a strained relationship and I held anger and resentment towards both of my parents. One of the best gifts I'm giving to myself is the space to heal and attending therapy so I can be a healthier person and have healthy relationships. It's quite amazing how dissociated and disconnected we become due to trauma. Thank you for this great video and for your channel! I appreciate these wise conversations, especially considering the world we are in.

False diagnosed by a inexperienced therapist which had just started therapy practise and she had only seen me 3 to 5 times - diagnosed me with Bpd - had to take overdose of SSRI and gained terribly weight and other severe side effects - when I informed our experienced family doctor - he warned me that most of those "diagnosis" are terribly wrong and he gave me the wise advice to tapper those medication which I started immediately with success - never ever had a personality disorder at all - never ever will take any medicine nor diagnosis from any therapist or psychiatrist at all - my trust into those psychodocs has gone - today I do help myself with watching videos from Gabor Mate which helps me more than any mediciation could ever do it for me.

I was misdiagnosed with BPD and a therapist (not a prescriber) tried to scare me into trying an SSRI for early pregnancy anxiety due to hormonal changes. I soon felt much better without a single intervention, thanks also to my pregnancy hormones. Pregnancy and breastfeeding were protective for me, and I trusted myself to seek care if I were to need it. Later on, I was able to correct my diagnoses and eventually after significant effort and expense received appropriate care from individuals who listened to me. I am able to tolerate a low dose SNRI now as part of my treatment plan. SSRIs are incredibly dulling and numbing, but they can help those who are highly anxious, for example. Medications can have a place, and treatment must be individualized and only competent prescribers should be the ones to recommend them.

Even as a scientist and doctor, someone who avoids using words around "divinity," he respects those who see the world animistically and spritually. I’ve been spending my whole life (but much more focused in the past few years) to find out my true authentic self as I find so many contradictory traits. After listening to this podcast, I have been able to dig up and identify with my childhood traumas which helps me take in the fact that I was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago and suffered from anxiety for almost two decades. Now I feel so much aware of why I have certain personality traits that I do and can be more accepting of the way I am and also my diagnoses. This feels absolutely so liberating I’m almost in tears! ❤

Growing up in another country (a collectivistic country) I soon noticed that loneliness, isolation and disconnection were the main themes illustrated in American movies. I then moved to the US and could see first hand how the possibilities of becoming independent so quickly made it possible for someone to just move away and be on their own...which could be great, except that it perpetuates separation and keeps people detached from others. Connection is the solution to many mental health and societal issues. I think.

First time I listen to you, André, you are great and way better than others that do what you do! Such intelligent thinking and really thought through, important questions. You are inviting Dr Maté to give his deepest, most detailed answers and that is priceless. I am hitting that button! 🤗

Dear Andre, I would like to say to you the following: there are plenty of podcasters that invited Gabor to share his wisdom, but you are one of the few (very few) that have such clarity in their questions and speach and able to dig deeper into the self. It was the first time I subscribed to a channel after watching/listening just one video. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. ✌️❤

Amazing book and love listening to Gabor Mate ❤ wow. Hard to fathom just how much old medical material, textbooks, procedure, beliefs etc has just been superseded and outdated with one book 📕 👏 😊

I had a tooth infection which escalated into an extraction and shingles etc. But it was like it facilitated a shamanic journey that opened up multidimensional existence and deeper awakening... great suffering but greater healing. My body was speaking!

Thank you Dr for being my guiding force and voice, you put a seed in my mind that i await the strength to water. I feel very excited and cared for in ultimately building my sense of self and growing in such a crazy world. introducing my sweet human self to adulthood is profoundly meaningful and positively invocative.

Passivity reminds me of our school system.. we are indoctrinated to be passive.. not learning for ourselves.. just pass the test. That's why I love Waldorf schools. We need form drawing and movement for adults. That's my dream

Also at home. A lot of parents think spanking their children teaches them positive behaviors when really, they’re just beating the soul and critical thinking and self expression out of their child. Parents want their children to be scared enough of them to just listen to everything they say without question. Critical thinking for themselves and questioning things isn’t allowed.
