@@luxfer7794! Are you familiar with authentic history? Do you pronounce "Edinburgh" as eden-burra, which means "The Eden of the North"? Do you know the history of the Jewish political refugees, who fled after the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth? They came to our island and went further, calling themselves The Hebredis Islands, meaning being of Hebrew. Scots occupied the northern part of the Irish island, but when the Irish developed a warring chieftain clan system, they sold and moved to the Scottish island. You should find The General Scottish Register and The Royal Scottish Register, created by those "Christian" Jewish refugees when they arrived, to account for everyone born since. Anthropologists can describe almost 200,000 of us, but I know there's another 50,000. If you are in there you have a right of return to Scotland. john@johnwatt.ca

@@fodge5395 The Anglo-Saxon kingdoms did terrible things to their neighbours, and this sadly carried on well into the previous century. But if there's one thing I know, it's that progress can never be made whilst people still cling on to past grievances, and deliberately keep wounds open. The time of kingdoms is over, and as a Scottish person, it disappoints me when scots get on their nationalistic high-horse. I'm not motivated by religious or cultural biases, but I do know that united, the British isles forged the largest empire the world has ever seen. Unity means strength, and I can honestly say in the last 200 years Scotland has had very little to complain about as part of Britain. So I can only surmise that the SNP and their ilk are simply playing on minor complaints and nationalistic impulses to gain political power.

Then forcibly evicted from their ancestral lands. I am proud to have two distinct sides to my family, one American and one Scottish. So we now know 47 people on this earth have literally no ears. I've grown up with Gaelic music as a huge influence and support mechanism. When I was just tiny my family lived in a tiny village (Roskill) on the Isle of Skye. They ran the guest house until they moved down to the north east. Many times I've visited Scotland but when I'm not there there is a hole in my soul that was left knowing I cannot be in Scotland. I began learning Gaelic and one day I plan to live back on the Hebrides. I hate the north east, I am an outcast, and no one believes in Scottish because I've lived with my mum my whole life and she has a very British accent I seem to have inherited. This beautiful song always brings a tear to my eye as faint memories of Skye flash through my mind, and the haunting fiddle in this is just a beautiful touch... edit: if you are listening to this on a phone, plug you're headphones into a computer instead and put the volume up. Trust me the sound is far more pure!

They say a mystical energy lies within Gaelic/Celtic languages... and when you listen to languages such as Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Welsh and Cornish, it's no wonder why that's said. The people who speak them, the places their breath haunts... any human on Earth would feel grounded there, even if they have no ties whatsoever. Of course it was these people who bore druids, Wicca, Christian Mysticism and many other mystical ways and practices. Might they all be blest.

My grandfather's favorite song but he sang it in Scots Gaelic and faster, probably to keep the pace milling (working woolen fabric). He died back in the 70s when I was 8, of a generation who spoke Gaelic as their first language. Their story is told in The Last stronghold by Margret Bennet.

Thanks for your note. I will look for this book. Weaving and fabric were important aspects of Gaelic life. My grandparents also spoke Gaelic and some family were involved in weaving on the Hebrides.

Anybody know where one can find more legit traditional music like this? Doesn't have to be Scottish or Irish alone, I just want to really get to know genuine tunes that weren't made for the specific goal of fame or world fashion. This sounds lovely and real, not oversynthesized, just instruments making something actually "new". And KZitem really lacks this kind of stuff

It comes from my country. It isn't magic, it is a distant echo of a culture destroyed by the British.

Saying it isn't magic and then citing -another- matter of opinion to support the statement doesn't a very solid statement make. If our culture were destroyed by the British, it wouldn't be here. Putting out a candle is meaningless if you take a flame to the wick again after. If I had to choose between the response of "This is completely normal" and "This is magic", with no middle grounds to be had, then, quite. This would be magic. o~o Bíodh lá maith agat.

@Lily Wood I’m well aware of my own peoples history, there’s no evidence of the Celts committing Ethnic Cleansing against the Picts, or the Vikings that settled in our North and West either. If you’re happy that justifies the Highland Clearances (or any of the other sins of the British Empire, such as the Opium Wars) I beg to differ.

This is it spelt phonetically, the real lyrics are this: Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile Mo shoraidh slàn leat 'S gach àit' an tèid thu. [ 1 ] 'S tric mi sealltinn o'n chnoc a's àirde, Feuch am faic mi fear a' bhàta, An tig thu an-diugh, no'n tig thu a-màireach, 'S mur tig thu idir gur truagh a tha mi. [Seist] [ 2 ] Tha mo chridhe-sa briste, brùite 'S tric na deòir a' ruith o'm shùilean. An tig thu a-nochd, no am bi mo dhùil riut, No'n dùin mi'n dorus le osna thùrsaich? [Seist] [ 3 ] 'S tric mi foighneachd de luchd nam bàta Am faic iad thu, no am bheil thu sàbhailt'? Ach 's ann a tha gach aon dhiubh 'g ràitinn Gur gòrach mise, ma thug mi gràdh dhuit. [Seist agus 'Coda'] Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile ||: Mo shoraidh slàn leat 'S gach àit' an tèid thu. :||
