Hi cs, thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's true, you'll want to get a nicer tamper. But if it's plastic turning you off know there's a lot more plastic inside similarly priced Breville machines which also have smaller lightweight portafilters and no heat transfer from grouphead.

Thank-you Rick for your comprehensive step by step instructions. I felt I had digested all the information, and was excited to make my first espresso. I placed my ground coffee into the portafilter using the small commercial basket, and tried to lock it into the Gaggia machine. It would not accept the portafilter. It seems I had too much coffee in the basket. I removed a fair bit of coffee and finally managed to lock it in place...turning the portafilter counterclockwise until the handle was aligned straight (facing me) but it seemed like a lot of torque was needed to lock it in place. There are no indications on this video as to how much coffee should be placed in the basket...no markers or "maximum level" mark. Would you offer some advice on this? Thanks-you Phil Jacques
@Wholelattelovepage
Жыл бұрын
Hi Philip, Thanks for the comment. When new, the group gasket will be stiff. It breaks in with use so it will become easier to lock-in. For coffee dose amount - Filling the filter basket loosely and level to the rim is about the most you want to use. Tamp the coffee firmly after filling. If after pulling a shot you see an impression of the shower screen in the used coffee puck then you've used to much coffee. Hope that helps!

@@Wholelattelovepage Thanks for your prompt reply and this tip. I will check the top of the puck for that impression. I was also wondering about weight. I have an accurate electronic scale that would allow me to be precise with the "dose". I was going to check with Gaggia to see if they had an ideal weight for each of the two commercial baskets. One final note: You clearly put a lot of effort into this video. I am so appreciative of you and others who freely offer their expertise to help first time users to navigate through what can often be a complicated process. Reading the manual left me confused about a number of issues, but your video resolved all of my questions. Hi I purchased this machine 2 years ago have only used it once. Because I was frustrated that the decompression duct (or drain pipe as it’s called in the booklet) does not fit into the slot. I got it to hang very loosely & I had to put the tray in first. Then fit the drain pipe & it hung down inside the top left hole on the tray. Which it looks like in the instruction manual & video it shouldn’t do. My husband & I got the machine out today to try again. That piece will not sit in that hole. When I watch your video & others this should be a simple process it’s not. I don’t want to force it. What can I do? Thank you looking forward to hearing from you. I did purchase this from Whole Latte Love. Also can you do a video on using the machine for just iced latte? To make sure I know what I’m doing. My old espresso machine from Starbucks years ago I had to do a step with the frothing wand. I’m so sorry I’m not very technical. I appreciate your time.
@Wholelattelovepage
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristie, Sorry for your troubles with the drain pipe. It's likely a very easy fix if you or the husband are just a little bit handy with a wrench. The piece which the pipe slides into is a nut which can be unscrewed from the machine. Inside the nut there's a little rubber o-ring causing friction to hold the pipe in place. If you can't get the pipe in very far and it's kind of loose I suspect the o-ring is turned out of position. If you remove the nut you should be able to see the position of the o-ring. Make sure it's seated properly deep into the nut. You will probably have to remove the top cover of the machine to get access to the other side of the nut to hold in place when removing the external piece and/or hold it in place when reattaching the external nut. Although this video does not show the repair I'm describing it does show how to get the top cover off the machine to gain access to the back of the nut: kzitem.info/news/bejne/salut3WhoYV4Z2k For the iced latte here's a video showing how to make one with no milk frothing skill required: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tZ2Nn4x_g3uddpw

In terms of water if I use artesian or Icelandic spring, do I still need to soften the water? Is there any kind of water I can use that doesn’t require filtering/softening the water at all?

Hi ODB, Thanks for the question. Unfortunately I do not have total hardness and alkalinity info for the brands you mention.
