Gahavar van is a deep dense forest situated in Barsana, the homeland of Shri Radha Rani. Barsana is situated at about 43 km away from Mathura, it is home to many temples dedicated to Radha Rani and hence each of the temples here reveres the existence of the supreme deity.
Gehvar van is very dear to Shri Kishori Radha. The place is called Nitya Vihar, which means that Radha Krishna are always together here and there is no moment of separation here. This forest is very significant because this is the only forest in Braj which is decorated and created by Shri Radha Rani’s own hands. It is the secluded vihar site of madhur leelas of Thakur Ji and Radha Rani and they forget everything.
Gahvarvan is the forest in the Braj region which beholds in it the innumerable secrets of Shri Krishna and Shri Radha pastimes. Apart from being deep and dense, this divine forest is inaccessible and secretive too, hence was the favorite place for childhood plays of Krishna. There are various trees in this dense forest that display and signify the presence of Shri Krishna and Shri Radha Rani even today. It is said that this forest has also witnessed the intimate pastimes of the supreme almighty. During the divine Raas Leels, each tree of Gahvarvan would become a Gopi and surround Shri Radha rani and Shri Krishna during the divine dance.
There are many pairs of trees entwining one another. These trees are believed to be Shri Radha and Shri Krishna. These trees are viewed as the lords dancing and singing and performing Raas with intimacy.
Gahvar van has various temples and places where many saints stayed to conduct their devotional services to please Shyama Shyam. Many saints had chosen this place to serve Shri Krishna and Shri Radha by singing melodious songs and praised the lords in their own way. Shri Vallabhacharya Baithak is situated here where he had recited Shrimad Bhagwat 108 times for the pleasure of Shri Radha Shyamsunder.
There are very old Raas Leela sthalis here. Priya Ji along with Her sakhis are always engaged in Vihar. Fortunate devotees witness the same even today.
