Rhodopean bagpipe players - Petar Yanev. Ensamble "Rhodopa" Smolyan
The State Ensemble for Folklore Singing and Dances RODOPA was established with the major purpose to sollect, preserve, and promote the unique folklore heritage of the Rhodope mountains. It is a divine mountais, the place of the legendary Orpheus, where the endless trail of song tells stories for every age, of the sun setting down onto flowery meadows and the sound of the deep, low sound of bagpipes undulates along green river valleys, pine-tree hills and the snowcaps of mountain peaks.
The folk choir, the orchestra, and the dance troupe present the authentic heritage with a finery that turns their performances into art. Being Rhodopeans, the performers keep their interpretation close to the authentic emotions and tone to the originals. It is enough to hear the lyrical songs of Siika Ivanova, Mladen Koinarov, Zlatina Ouzounova, Kristina Engerova, and Velichka Todorova, listen to Peter Yanev playing the bagpipe or Todor Gluhov playing the kaval (end-blown flute), to identify them with the culture of this ancient mountain. The performers' artistic talent, their strong commitment to folklore and their deep roots in the aea build up the professional image of Rhodopa Folklore Ensemble.
