Thanks for the nice video! I'd like to share some information as a Vietnamese viewer. After the PAVN acquired the technical data package for the Galil ACE, we decided to tinker with the design a little. This became the STV 380 and STV 215 (where the numerical designations correspond to the barrel lengths in millimeters), which were just revealed earlier this year. And from what I've gathered, these rifles are actually the ones being adopted. What kinda confused me was that these new rifles lacked the left-side safety lever as well as the picatinny rails at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. They also moved the charging handle back to the right side, and used a non-telescoping, paratrooper-FAL-style folding stock. I don't know why the engineers made the decisions that they did. I've heard someone explained that they removed the side picatinny rails to make the handguard smaller to fit Vietnamese hands, which I guess makes some sense. It seemed to me like we bought an ergonomically improved AK and downgraded it to basically an AK with peep sights and picatinny rails on the top.

I gotta admit I’m a big AK guy. Always liked them more than an AR. Then I was introduced to Israeli Weapons Industry and it’s creations. Outside of the box thinking is attractive to me and my constituents. Then the Galil came out which is an unusual beast. The ACE is a very fine platform. Never shot it over 100 yards but it’s a very reliable , manageable/ controllable rig. It takes an age old 40 mm round and throws it as far as possible like an AK. To see it go to 500 is impressive but not a surprise. I couldn’t have access to stretch its legs and ended up selling mine , well trading it but for two Cold War AK’s in excellent condition (Afghanistan/Russia) war. Good history but I regret the deal I got for my galil. I’m a lefty so it’s setup is awkward especially after shooting AR’s RH. The ACE is a superior firearm but aftermarket is not quite there. Price point isn’t too bad but going up as of late. Glad to see this video.

in my mind the galil ace is essentially the ak version of the block 1 m4, its a a modernized version of the ak platform with simmilar shortcoming to the block 1 in terms of its rail subsequent doctrine of fire, now if you saw an ace with a lighter sleeker and longer mlok handguard that went out to just behind the muzzle device, i think the ace would accomplish what the ak12 is trying to accomplish

Vietnam just bought this rifle for metallurgying nonetheless, then we used it to produce our our STV-380 and STV-410 rifles (submachine gun in Vietnamese classification), which itself is a hybrid of AKM and Galil 32.

Actually I'll add a point that's rarely noted for the AK12 and AK15: The handguard is free floated, noted especially by Kalashnikov Concern themselves. I cannot find any data that suggests the Galil ACE's handguard to be free floated but I will say I'd probably still trust it to actually hit what I need it to. We'll probably not get many options to test the accuracy of an AK12 but Garand Thumb's chance to try a Rifle Dynamics build of one, he was particularly impressed with its accuracy in 5.45. They've also made minor changes to the stock and rear sight with latest iterations, and some recent videos from Kalashnikov Concern show some AK12 models with a full length handguard with M-LOK, possibly a prototype? One thing Larry Vickers points out is that the locking mechanism for the ACE's top rail doesn't seem very sturdy versus the 12's but from what I've seen it's a non issue most of the time and as you demonstrated, works more than well enough. There are some types of magazines that won't fit the ACE in 7.62x39 due to the magwell and some dimensions but most seem to fit fine. Steel mags and standard bakelite mags work, and if I had to I'd even use PMAGs. Personally, either way you slice it, the ACE is a great alternative format of the AK with some nice conveniences that make it an arguably great choice. If I had to choose between a classic and an ACE, and I had the budget to kit it out with aftermarket parts, I'd probably let the classic edge it for me. But if all I had was an ACE, I won't complain. It's a great rifle! Nice to see you guys still kicking arse out there, keep it up and I hope to see more.

There are some disadvantages with the Galil ACE, that aren't obvious at a quick look. One is that the railed cover is not suitable for heavy optics (including storage, due to torquing). Then, the magwell restricts the types of magazines that work in it. The safety isn't ambidextrous, both are right hand optimized, making them more awkward at left handed operation than stock. The sliding cover over the charging port has also been reported to be inconvenient by some people that run them hard, because it cuts. I'd probably use a Bulgarian AR-M9 AK, if I wanted milled, or any stamped AKM properly configured/modded (low side rail mount, combo block, maybe a free floated handguard) for an ME scenario.

I watched the 103 vid again before this for comparison. All I can say is Intel was definitely off for us in Iraq. Us British were told the ak firing 7.62x39 was only accurate to 200m. All your vids on this cartridge platform prove it wrong.
@GhostRider659

It's not only about calibre of the cartridge, it's also about its quality and quality of a weapon system that uses it. So, if we are talking about poorly qualified cartridge and poorly maintained, produced weapon, accurate shooting range maybe even less then 200 meters. I mean, it is possible to produce AK system that will not hit standing open target at 50 meters range or even less.

In all fairness, he's very skilled and practiced at distance shooting, and one thing in particular that's different from Henry to probably almost every person you'd meet with an AK in Iraq, is that he has a spotter. If you watch a bunch of their practical accuracy videos, having a spotter is really important for correction and making hits at distance, even with more optimized setups

Larry Vickers mentioned a significant play at the top rail on slow motion when he made a video about this gun. How is it in your experience, did IWI fix the problem?
@9HoleReviews
3 жыл бұрын
We did not film in slow motion, and that could be the case. I would say that the issue could come from disassembling it and losing zero, but as far as a rifle just taking the field with an optic up top and shooting a few hundred, we did not see the zero walk.

I’ve shot a lot of the Galil in comps all over the country and not seen this to be an issue. Keep in mind what he filmed was also a machine gun which are beat to hell over the years so it very well could come lose some, however I have both x39 and 5.56 NATO with well over 10K on both. Haven’t seen a zero shift even while taking the top cover off to clean that’s more than a 1/10 of a Mil. Again that’s after taking it off and putting it back on.
