Hey viewer! Yes, you. Are you writing a comment to "um acktually" what I said about the lack of instructions or menu option documentation? Guess what. I know. I totally missed the tutorial on my first read through of the listing. I messed up and that's on me. Please check the description. The clarification funnyplaying offers does provide some insight into what each of the options are doing but I still stand by what I said about personal preferences. And this changes nothing regarding the bugs I experienced.

Love the videos, such a great resource. I’ve just done this mod and tried to replicate the bugs you experienced: 1. The FRM label is still bugged - ON is showing as OFF. 2. Brightness button operation is working correctly for me. Tried it in the same menu on 240p Test Suite as you, didn’t experience it stop working. I’ll test with some GBC games later to see if I experience any issues there. I also have Helder’s Power Cleaner installed, so don’t know if that would make a difference at all? I’ve done the FP V2 9380 screen, the FP ITA screen and now this one. This is my favourite so far, though still not perfect - so close but for the sub-pixels preventing pixel grid effects. Really like the desaturation option so far. Will be testing with Golden Sun to see if it solves the colour issues with new screens at the beginning of the game.

After some back and forth with funnyplaying, we have decided that the brightness button issue is likely unique to my specific kit as we've been unable to reproduce the issue with other kits on the same Game Boy.

To remove the hinges my son actually came up with the idea of using a small socket from my mini multi bit set. just find the right size hex bit socket to press the hinge pin out of the hinge.

Looking at the imgur album I can see why they didn't implement a DSP mode with vertical lines. Thanks for the video makho!

Hello, first of all, great video! I have a GBA SP with a 001 screen... So I wanted to mod it, by changing the shell and especially the screen and battery, the 950mAh one that is on the Funnyplaying website. I ordered the screen that you show here in this video (well, I think so because the one I ordered is the 3.0 and I don't know if it's the one you're testing) I really hope I'm not disappointed :( the screen looks really good in the end apart from a few bugs, and I have a little question, what is the approximate playtime with the brightness at maximum (just to get an idea of it), the screen was ordered 4 days ago. I can't wait to receive it :p and especially I hope I don't regret taking the ITA or the other version. Thanks again for this video and thanks in advance for your answer!

I measure power usage and record the numbers to a spreadsheet (linked on my site in the description). From there, it's simple math to extrapolate best case and worst case scenarios. Every console, battery, and game cartridge is different though so just play your console to get an accurate estimate for yourself.

The hinge removal tool looks like a good piece. Using a metal tool always feels sketch.

I dont like how the bracket causes a bulge where the connector is, I dont get why it was designed like this for their own shells

To test input lag you could use the stopwatch /input lag test in the 240p suite, film with a slowmo camera, press a button to see how many frames behind the clock stop at (the test already show the frames) so you only need a slowmo app or camera. In my experience One chip are very laggy

the new CG option is responsible for tempareature: option 1 is warm, option 2 is normal and option 3 is some extra color boost, I've done that mod already

Are the flash carts interfering with the brightness button ?
@makho
17 күн бұрын
Nope. It just doesn't work intermittently in GBA mode and at all in GB/C mode. After some back and forth with funnyplaying, we have come to the conclusion that my kit must have some sort of defect as other kits seem to work totally fine in the same console.

why we accept that these screens pull at least double the milliamps a 101 screen pulls at the same brightness? I know it's controversial but I love 101 screens.

Well the biggest reason is that the format for these screens has changed (think analog vs digital) and there is no modern screen capable of interfacing with a GB. So to make up for this, we need a power hungry FPGA to translate what the GB outputs to something a modern screen will accept. I see no reason a screen cannot be manufactured to talk directly to the console but I'm not very knowledgeable on the technical side of things in this aspect. I do know that this type of thing is a six digit investment, however, so the tradeoff is that we get half the battery life on consoles that were already known for having high battery life. It is likely cheaper, easier, and more efficient to just update the GB CPUs to output in a format that is compatible with modern screens. But since the original silicon cannot be modified, the next closest thing is to replicate the functionality in a FPGA and replace the obsolete parts (like the analog display interface) with a modern equivalent. This is what funnyplaying is working on, what analogue has already completed, and what modretro is about to release as well.

Is this screen M2 also available for gbc?

No. GBC uses a more square aspect ratio screen and there are different displays that are more suited to the task.

Honestly, I hate these new screens with the OSD menu. Personally the FP V2 were the best iteration for me. No bugs and it was simple. Now its just getting too complex which in some sense defeats the purpose of gaming on older hardware. It's for the simplicity. Otherwise people would just play it on their phones... Plus the bugs suck. My GBA V3 (3.0) screen randomly cycles through brightness and OSD menu pops up out of nowhere. I had to de-solder the touch sensor chip to stop it.

And they STILL haven't updated their terrible logo text either. On SP or GBA. They made the perfect GBC lenses and have continued to neglect both GBA consoles.

I just set my preferences once and then never opened the OSD again. The touch sensor being finicky is annoying though. I guess it's for people who didn't solder the wire to the button, still not an ideal experience.

@@m4xQ I find that if you provide specific examples of what you don't like, funnyplaying is generally pretty receptive to feedback like this. Saying "it's terrible" without telling them why will not be productive. I'd encourage you to give them feedback directly.

@@makho But in Close up images of the DSP modes, this M2LCD should be delta arrangement. So, the this LCD can't do vertical lines, and pixel grid DSP modes. I saw the close-up image of the DSP mode you uploaded on imgur.
